Meeting start The inaugural general meeting of IEEE Sri Lanka Section SIGHT group was held virtually on Zoom on the 24th of February from 7 p.m. The proceedings were initiated by Ms. Sewwandie Nanayakkara with brief introduction into SIGHT. Welcome address by the Chairman The Chairman Mr. Peshan Sampath was invited to the virtual spotlight to welcome the attendees of the meeting. The event schedule officially began with the outgoing president Mr. Peshan Sampath, formally welcoming all the participants. Guest Speech by Section Chairman The invited guest of the event Prof Pradeep Abeygunawardhana, Chairperson of IEEE Sri Lanka Section was invited to deliver his speech next. In his speech he highlighted the importance of formation of chapters like SIGHT groups, and expressed his excitement to work with the incoming committee in the future. Appointment of new executive committee for the year 2022 Mr. Peshan Sampath was invited to proceed with the election of office bearers for the term 2022. Since the position of assistant secretary had two eligible nominations a vote was conducted to elect one out of the two nominations. Out of the votes gathered Mr. Mahsoom was elected as the assistant secretary for the term. For the committee members only the nomination of Mr. Umith Indula had been received as an eligible nomination via open call for nominations. There were 4 vacant positions for committee members which the audience were invited to elect within the meeting. Hence the following members were proposed during the meeting as committee members. Ms Kaumudi Gunathilake was proposed by Mr. Iroshan Rathnayake and seconded by Mr. Dimuthu Anuraj was proposed by Mr. Mithushan Jalangan and seconded by Ms. Dilini Ekanayake. Ms. Sachini Rajapaksha was proposed by Mr. Saditha Dissanayake and seconded by Ms. Dilini Ekanayake. Mr. Iroshan Rathnayake was proposed by Ms. Kaumudi Gunathilaka and seconded by Mr. Sheril Nilanka. The rest of the positions were elected with the responses received through the open call for nominations. The elected committee is as follows. Mr. Lakshan Madhushanka explained his vision for the coming year and highlighted the importance of enhancing the volunteer involvement with IEEE Sri Lanka Section SIGHT. Vote of Thanks The inaugural meeting was adjourned with the vote of thanks by the newly appointed secretary Ms. Sewwandie Nanayakkara.
