Arduino Workshop Day 1

November 18, 2021 · 5:00 AM - 1:00 PM @ Online event

Description

The Robotics Club of Mahinda Rajapaksha College, Mathara, requested the IEEE Robotics and Automation Society of University of Peradeniya to facilitate the second day of their Arduino Workshop for children aged between 13 years to 17 years. The college Robotics Club was a new initiative, but up to date, few innovative robot designs have been made by the children. Therefore, to enhance their knowledge and scoop the best out of them, they have decided to organize an Arduino Workshop, where all the equipment that are needed to create the robots were given by the school. For us, it became an excellent opportunity to expand our services to society. So, we were able to cover the required materials in two days, on the 18 th and 25 th of November, via the Zoom platform. The session on the first day, 25 th of November, started at 9.00 a.m. and lasted to about 6 p.m. After the opening by the principal and the teacher-in-charge of the college Robotics Club, as decided, we gave a brief introduction about robot environments, the methods of initializing the creation, the required other equipment and the fundamentals. This was done by one of our committee members, Mr. Nadun Nilupul, who is a mastermind in the robotics field and a proud owner of many robot designs. After this introduction, he handed over the session to Mr. Aftab Naim, who is also one of our committee members, and he covered the areas of coding. Not like a general audience, the little children were so enthusiastic about learning new things, and that made the session more interesting. They were given the instrument kit before and also a basic knowledge of Arduino. We had to elaborate on how to start a project up to its completion. They enquired about every single thing to clarify further. The session went on in synchronous mode, where the children were coding while learning. So that, the emerging questions were solved using the screen sharing option in Zoom. At the end of the session, the kids were thrilled because their robots were moving as for their command. Also, one of the kids has done a great job in creating a robot from the given instruments. He has crated the robot and uploaded in his youtube channel. The link for his robot can be obtained from here . So we helped him and the others to develop their codes in order to control the robot properly. After about 8 hours, the session ended, hoping to meet on another day.
