March 23, 2022 at 11:30 AM - March 28, 2022 at 2:30 PM @ Online event

Description

Telecommunication has evolved from ancient pure hardware play to previous semi-software/hardware play to current exclusive software solutions to the future cloud–native software platforms known today as Telecommunication Softwarization. In obtaining this progress one has to be very vigilant to protect networks and devices from external threats, that is ; cyber security. Apart from that, considering the latest trends in the world regarding Telecommunication ‘Data Analytics’ and ‘Blockchains’ cannot be forgotten. Data Analytics refers to the techniques used to analyze data and thereby enhance productivity and gain whereas a Blockchain is a distributed software network that functions both as a digital ledger and a mechanism enabling the secure transfer of assets without intermediary. All the above mentioned topics are trendiest topics in the Telecommunication world currently on which the majority of us do not possess a deep knowledge on. The IEEE ComSoc therefore organized this event to provide the young enthusiasts this rare opportunity of exploring them. The event is a lecture series named “Teleconnect”. It was organized with the purpose of giving a broad idea about the latest and popular trends of the current Telecommunication sector. It was mainly organized by the IEEE ComSoc Student Chapter of University of Peradeniya in collaboration with the IEEE ComSoc Sri Lanka Section and IEEE ComSoc Student Branch Chapters of Universities of Moratuwa and Ruhuna. These most informative and valuable lectures were brought to us by four great professionals of the Telecommunication Sector. The first lecture was held by Eng. Anuradha Udunuwara (Telecom and Tech Thought Leader, Researcher and Author) under the topic ‘Telco Softwarization’. The second lecture was held by Prof. Sameera De Alwis (The Cyber Security Professor, Professional Lecturer and Cyber Intelligence (Military) Specialist) under the topic ‘Cyber Security’. The third lecture was brought to us by Eng. Amalka Withana (AI and Data Science Specialist and Data Engineer at Axiata Digital Labs) under the topic ‘ Data Analytics’. The final lecture that is the fourth lecture was brought to us by Dr. Harsha S. Gardiyawasam ( Associate Professor in Cyber Security, University of Agder, Norway and Specialized in access control models, Privacy preserving protocols and blockchain systems) under the topic ‘Introduction to Blockchain’.
