FInnC’22, Future Innovators Challenge is the flagship event of the IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa. Since its commencement in April 2022, FInnC’22 has inspired and educated young tech innovators through a number of webinars and workshops. Eight most capable teams with brilliant innovative ideas have been narrowed down from fifteen semifinalist teams chosen from initial 50+ registrations as the finalists for the grand Finale of FInnC’22. All these candidates had aligned their innovative solutions under six carefully selected areas: Industrial Automation and IoT, Agriculture, Power and Energy, Waste Management, Differently Abled and Elderly Care, and Fitness and Wellbeing. Achieving the ultimate goal of FInnC’22, to unmask innovative ideas to a prototype stage and guide the teams to develop the final product, the Grand Finale of FInnC’22 was held on 13th August 2022 at IESL Wimalasurendra Auditorium. After ushering the guests to the auditorium and seating the attendees, FInnC’22 Grand Finale was commenced by the moderator for the event Mr Shehan Paul. Staff Advisor of IES at UoM, Dr Peshala Jayasekera, Assistant Vice President Customer Experience at NCINGA, Eng. Isuru Pathirana, Senior R&D Engineer at Synopsys Inc, Eng. Aditha Raja karuna and Senior Electronic Engineer at Paraqum technologies, Eng. Onila Fonseka , Mr Isuru Ponnapperuma from NCINGA, Mr Lahiru Nawarathna from Paraqum technologies and immediate past treasurer of IES at UoM, Mr Sahan Hemachandra graced the event with their presence as distinguished guests. After lighting the traditional oil lamp, a glimpse of the journey so far of FInnC’22 was presented through a video presentation. Mr Deepana Ishtaweera, Chairman of IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa warmly welcomed the gathering for the Grand Finale. Afterwards, the Platinum partner of FInnC’22 NCINGA was announced and introduced. Before beginning the pitching sessions of the finalist teams, the panel of judges consisting of the staff Advisor of IES at UoM, Dr Peshala Jayasekera, Assistant Vice President Customer Experience at NCINGA, Eng. Isuru Pathirana, Senior R&D Engineer at Synopsys Inc, Eng. Aditha Rajakaruna and Senior electronic Engineer at Paraqum technologies, Eng. Onila Fonseka were introduced and the marking criteria were announced. In the first one-third of the pitching sessions, Team Ceylon Solvers and Team We Test Future got the opportunity to pitch their product for 10 minutes with a follow-up Q&A session of 10 minutes for each team. Afterwards, a Gold partner of FInnC’22 Paraqum Technologies was announced and introduced. Team Electro Cube and Team Blackkeyhole pitched their products and answered the questions directed by the judging panel in the second one-third of the pitching sessions. After the lunch break, a Gold partner of FInnC’22, Synopsys, was introduced and announced before the final one-third of the pitching sessions which gave the opportunity to Team Stydo Labs, Team Pheonix and Team SLIITX to pitch their products. After all the finalist teams participated in the pitching session Mr Isuru Ponnapperuma from NCINGA, the Platinum Sponsor of FInnC’22, spoke a few words. After a short break, Dr Peshala Jayasekara, the staff advisor of the IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter of University of Moratuwa addressed the gathering. Next, the judges of the Grand Finale addressed the audience emphasizing the brilliance of all the products pitched and giving an overall comment on the plus points and suggesting improvements to be made in all the products in general. Then began the most awaited part of the event, the awarding ceremony. After paying gratitude to the distinguished guests and the panel of judges with the tokens of appreciation it was time to crown the winners of the Grand Finale of FInnC’22. Team Strydo Labs consisting of Mr Damithra Fernando, Mr Malintha Fernando, Ms Kasuni Gunawardhana and Ms Hansi Dananjana won 3rd place in FInnC’22 Grand Finale while Team Ceylon Solvers consisting of Mr Odil Janadith and Mr Nimeth Menukawon the 2nd place. Team Electro Cube consisting of Mr Sanjula Gathsara was crowned the most popular team and the Champion of FInnC’22, Future Innovators Challenge. All the winners were awarded cash prizes and medals and the other finalist teams were appreciated with certificates of finalists. Finally, the Co-chair of FInnC’22, Mr Seniru Dissanayake delivered the vote of thanks, appreciating the support of the staff advisor, Dr Peshala Jayasekara, sponsors, alumni, the panel of judges and the distinguished guests, the competitors and the attendees and most importantly his fellow co-chair Mr Ravidu Munasinghe, FInnC’22 organizing committee, IEEE IES SBC executive committee and everyone who contributed in the success journey of FInnC’22. With that FInnC’22, Future Innovators Challenge successfully concluded crowning and encouraging the talented young innovators of the year.
