Luminous Echo : Podcast Series

April 17, 2022 · 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM @ Online event

Description

The IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group of SLTC presents LUMINOUS to all female undergraduates on the island to promote and urge them to pursue their education and STEM careers while drawing inspiration from accomplished women throughout the world. This project motivated and empowered all female undergraduates in Sri Lanka to adapt to the fast-paced progress in science and technology by motivating them to strive for success and professional growth through listening to podcasts and reading biographies of successful women who accomplished greater achievements in history and the present moment. This will increase female undergraduates’ self-esteem as well as their employment prospects in Sri Lanka. “ Luminous Echo ” podcast series has become increasingly popular among university students and become the best podcast series in the history of SLTC. This is especially true for women in engineering, who may face unique challenges and barriers to entry in any field. This podcast features interviews with women working in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) fields, discussing their careers, the challenges they've faced, and the advice they have for other women interested in STEM. One of the key significances of this podcast series is that it showcases a diverse range of women in different STEM fields and different backgrounds who have significantly approached an outstanding career than other women. By hearing from a wide variety of women, listeners can learn about the many different paths that are available to them and the different ways that they can succeed in the field. By joining, different women professionals covered all sides of STEM and also covered the fields that are not mostly considerable. Another important aspect of “Luminous Echo” podcast series is empower women to different paths without being trapped in a frame. The podcast will be the starting point for the entire endeavor. There are 5 episodes in this audio series, divided into five categories. These are the categories: Women in Engineering Women in IT Women in Technology Women in Science Women in Entrepreneurship Every episode last 30 minutes , and episodes will be released monthly on various platforms such as Anchor, Spotify and Youtube . In addition, a short quiz will be held related to the flyer and podcast series . Also, winners will be awarded valuable gifts and certificates. This is an excellent resource for engineering women looking for inspiration and guidance. Since launching our podcast, we have received an overwhelming amount of feedback from listeners. The positive comments we received from the podcast series were incredibly valuable to us. They not only served as validation that we were on the right track with our content but also provided valuable feedback that will help us to improve and refine future episodes. For example, many listeners praised the guests we featured and the topics we covered, which will help us to continue to select guests and topics that will be of interest to our audience. Overall, the feedback we received has given us a better understanding of our audience and will help us to create even more engaging and informative content in the future. The guest speaker of the first podcast is Ms. Malmi P. Kiriwandalage who was NASA JPL solar system ambassador and undergraduate research assistant at the Stony brook university, USA . Ms. Dulani Chamika Withanage , a PHD candidate in the space system was the guest speaker of the second podcast. Ms.Ureni Halahakon participated the third podcast as the guest speaker. She was a medical degree holder and did Master of Health Services Management and philosophy. The fourth podcast was held with the participation of Dr.Ishara Kalpani Duwalage who was a postdoctoral research fellow in Australia . The resource person of the fifth podcast is Dr. Thathsara D. Maddumapatabandi. She had a bachelor’s degree in specialized chemistry from the university of Colombo and a PhD in physical chemistry from the University of South Carolina, United States. This series features interviews with women in the tech industry, including engineers, discussing their career paths, challenges they've faced, and advice for other women looking to enter the field. By hearing from a diverse group of successful women and learning about their experiences, listeners can gain confidence and motivation to pursue their own goals and dreams. In this podcast, many members of the organizing committee actively participated in various roles. They served as moderators, who helped to guide and direct the conversation, as well as coordinators, who helped to organize and plan the podcast. They were involved in various aspects of the podcast, including preparing questions, arranging guests and panellists, and ensuring that the podcast ran smoothly. The presence of so many members of the organizing committee in these roles indicates a high level of commitment and dedication to the podcast and likely contributed to its success. This podcast that focuses on inspiring women in engineering can have many benefits for society. Raising awareness: By highlighting the achievements and experiences of women in engineering, the podcast can raise awareness of the contributions that women are making in this field and help to shatter stereotypes about who can be an engineer. Encouraging girls and young women to pursue careers in engineering: By providing role models and stories of successful women engineers, the podcast can inspire girls and young women to consider a career in this field and demonstrate that they, too, can excel in engineering. Highlighting diversity and inclusion: By showcasing the perspectives and experiences of women from different backgrounds and at different career stages, the podcast can help to promote diversity and inclusion within the field of engineering. This can help to create a more representative, equitable, and innovative engineering community. Sharing knowledge and resources: A podcast can serve as an informal learning environment where listeners can learn from the experiences of women engineers. They could share insights, tips, and challenges, encouraging more woman to get in the field, and providing resources to help women succeed in engineering. Networking opportunities: By bringing together listeners with an interest in engineering and women's issues, the podcast can create opportunities for networking and collaboration. This could lead to new partnerships and opportunities for women engineers, as well as for the wider engineering community. Overall, the podcast can help to make engineering more diverse, inclusive, and accessible, which can lead to more innovative solutions, better representation of society, and a more resilient engineering community
