Filter of Hope - Phase 1 (Water Sample Collection)

December 2, 2022 · 5:00 AM - 8:30 AM @ Polonnaruwa, Maguldamana maha vidyalaya

Description

Chronic Kidney Disease of uncertain origin (CKDu) has been a public health epidemic, especially in the north-central region of Sri Lanka. According to research, the incidence of CKDu in Sri Lanka has been doubling every four to five years. Most of the villagers in these areas are engaged in farming and not economically stable enough to go for proper medical facilities often. Madawa, in Dimbulagala of Polonnaruwa District, is a village with about 650 residents. Up to now, no purified water provision has happened in this area even if it belongs to a highly critical region. What we as IEEE Sri Lanka Section SIGHT group intend to do is to establish a customized RO filter which will be based on the water samples tested by our group. The installation of the filter will be done at a common water source (well) which has the capacity to provide water to the above number of people.
