Duothan 3.0 - Annual Buildathon
February 24, 2023 · 3:30 AM - 11:30 AM @ Faculty of Computing, Homagama, NSBM Green University
Description
Duothan 3.0 is an annual hackathon which is organized by the IEEE Student Branch of NSBM in Collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society of NSBM and the IEEE Women in Engineering Affinity Group of NSBM. We’ve successfully held Duothan for the past two years, and perceiving student engagement and curiosity about the event have led us to continue the event this year as well. This year, we not only thought of holding the event but also expanding its scope of it. In past years we’ve organized algorithm-based hackathons through Hackerrank, but this year we thought to hold a Buildathon. Buildathon is a competition where participants have to rebuild a half-built application according to the given guidelines. Participants are able to use any programming language they prefer. It takes 07 hours to compete with a group consisting of four members. In past years, we’ve opened it only for NSBM Undergraduates, but this year we are opening it to all undergraduates from any university. Because it will help us to build a better interconnection between the other universities. This Buildathon is organized with the explicit purpose of enhancing the coding skills of undergraduates. This is taking place as a Physical event and the winners will receive cash prizes and a valuable certificate. And also, all the other participants will receive a digital certificate in appreciation of their participation and hard work. Aims and Objectives To enhance coding knowledge and boost the participation of undergraduates in Buildathon. To improve the network and connections of IEEE members in all universities. To create an open platform where students can improve their own knowledge by practising. To inspire undergraduates to code and develop more, by showing them how much satisfaction we could gain by solving those coding problems. To help them to find out if they have a passion for coding or if not to make the passion by themselves. Here it was one of our aims to reach out to nonmember IEEE Students as well to give a good impression and experiences regarding IEEE as well Furthermore, in this year’s celebration, we reached out to industrial knowledge partners as we needed them to evaluate the scores of participants and choose the winners accordingly with an industrial standard.
