RealHack, the inter-university hackathon is a platform for undergraduates, field experts, business partners, and enthusiastic individuals to collaborate in order to discover the software arena while sharpening their perceptions, talents, and brainstorming in designing and developing procedures. The first-ever Software Engineering student group of the University of Kelaniya was the pioneer of this inter-university hackathon, initiating the RealHack 1.0 in 2018. With the blessings and the feedback received from stakeholders and competitors in RealHack 1.0, the Software Engineering Students Association collaborating with the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Kelaniya, successfully launched the 2nd chapter of this journey in 2019 as RealHack 2.0. The RealHack 3.0 in 2021-2022, which was held amidst the Covid-19 pandemic with strict health guidelines, remarked a glorious victory of this journey with much appreciation and motivation from our partners. RealHack 4.0 is the fourth iteration of this incredible journey. The purpose of the event was to bring together tech-savvy undergraduates of the country onto the same platform and create the stage for a friendly battle of brainstorming and coding. It was not solely focused on academic achievements, but also on fostering innovation and creativity. To provide an opportunity for students to collaborate, learn from each other, and share knowledge, which is in line with the goal of improving the quality of activities and fostering knowledge sharing among students. Event Overview Pre-hack - 287 teams of undergraduates from both Government as well as Private universities registered for RealHack 4.0 and the preliminary round was hosted on www.hackerrank.com on 25 th of February 2023. It was a 3-hour contest and 15 teams emerged as finalists based on their performance on the platform. The Final Hackathon - The final hackathon was done as an online event commencing on 11th of March at 10am through Zoom platform. The finalists were introduced, and the code of conduct was presented to the audience and the problem statement was given to the finalists. The teams were given the challenge of proposing and implementing a software solution for a real-time question and answer site. As the hackathon took place for over 24 hours, it ended on the 12th of March. Awards Ceremony - On the 20th of March 2023, the teams were given an allocated time to present their solution to a panel of judges after which the panel asked questions about the solutions. The judges presented their final evaluation and results to the Organizing team and the awards ceremony commenced with the participation of the invited dignitaries and lecturers.
