Exploring Career Pathways in Electrical Engineering: Navigating the Sri Lankan Job Market Date: 1st April 2023 The IEEE Power and Energy Society of the University of Ruhuna successfully organized an insightful webinar on " Exploring Career Pathways in Electrical Engineering: Navigating the Sri Lankan Job Market." The targeted audience was all the students in the electrical engineering department and 1st-year students. The main objectives of the event were: Main Objectives of the Webinar: Discuss different career pathways available to electrical engineering graduates. Provide an overview of the current Sri Lankan job market for electrical engineers. Explore emerging trends and technologies in the field of electrical engineering. Highlight the skills and qualifications required for various roles in the industry. Offer tips and advice for job seekers in the electrical engineering field. The webinar, conducted online, featured three distinguished guest speakers, each representing a specific area within electrical engineering. The key areas covered during the webinar were: Key Areas: Power Generation Renewable Energy Electrical Installations The speakers provided comprehensive insights into these key areas and addressed the main objectives of the webinar. Eng. Zahra Marzook, CEng(SL) who is currently serving as an Electrical Engineer in Line Construction and Maintenance at the Projects and Heavy Maintenance Distribution Division of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) delivered an informative session on power generation. Eng. Prabhath Premathilake, CEng(SL) who is currently serving as a Divisional Planning and Development Engineer at the CEB, focused on renewable energy. Eng. Madushan Amarathunga, CEng(SL) who is currently serving as a Senior Electrical Engineer at Central Engineering Services Pvt Ltd, as well as a Senior Consultant at Justech Engineering Pvt Ltd, shared his expertise on electrical installations. Throughout the webinar, the speakers discussed the various career pathways available to electrical engineering graduates, emphasizing the diversity of opportunities within power generation, renewable energy, and electrical installations.
