WHAT IS IX 23? IX 23 was an event that spotlighted Sri Lanka's XR-Based UI/UX Designathon. The event was structured around equipping participants with skills and experiences related to extended reality (XR) concepts in the context of user interface and user experience (UI/UX) design. It kicked off with an informative induction session for registered participants, setting the stage by acquainting them with the event's goals and structure. Following this, the event featured an initial round where participants dived into the challenge of crafting UI/UX solutions aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) set by the World Health Organization. Empowering workshops, conducted by seasoned professionals, offered participants insights into design thinking for XR, UI design essentials, and mastering spatial design in XR. The top 10 teams emerged from this phase to compete in a high-stakes finale, consisting of a 24-hour designathon and presentations to a panel of expert judges. This event ensured participants engaged in learning, application, and competition within the realm of XR-based UI/UX design. WHY ARE WE UNIQUE? IX 23 embodied a unique evolution of the original concept. Building upon the success of its predecessors, IX 23 stood as the third installment of Sri Lanka's pioneering inter-university designathon series conducted by the IEEE Student Branch of IIT . What set IX 23 apart was its dynamic hybrid structure , seamlessly combining both online and physical rounds . This innovation marked a departure from the previous editions, IX 20 and IX 21, which were exclusively conducted online. A defining feature of IX 23 was its pioneering role as the inaugural XR-Based UI/UX Designathon in Sri Lanka . This distinction stemmed from the integration of Apple's Vision OS Guidelines into spatial designs, expertly crafted through established UI/UX platforms like Figma and Adobe XD. This intersection of technology and design pushed boundaries, fostering immersive and interactive experiences that redefined user engagement. The impact of IX 23 was underscored by its impressive participation – drawing over 140 teams from more than 20 universities across Sri Lanka . This remarkable response reflected the resonance of the event's unique blend of XR innovation, hybrid structure, and the opportunity for students to explore the cutting-edge intersection of design and technology.
