WHAT IS AQUATHON? Aquathon is a mini-hackathon that the IEEE Student Branch of IIT newly presented with the aim of introducing undergraduate freshers to the world of hackathons. This mini-hackathon exclusively targeted all Level 04 students at IIT who were new to the field of technology and eager to experience challenges. The insufficient idea about hackathons and less hackathon experience among fresh undergraduates were the major reasons for this new initiative. WHY ARE WE UNIQUE? Aquathon empowered new undergraduate students at IIT by providing them with an opportunity to develop their technical and problem-solving skills. This also supported fresh undergraduates by creating an inclusive and collaborative environment where students can work together to solve real-world problems using technology. We strived to provide participants with the necessary support to develop their thinking ability, as well as to foster a culture of learning and growth. By doing so, we hoped to inspire and motivate students to continue to pursue their passions in technology and innovation. Furthermore, the Aquathon was held as a physical event at IIT premises. We managed to get 190 participants registered for the Aquathon under 65 teams . These high numbers represent the curiosity and enthusiasm of fresh undergraduates towards hackathons. The Aquathon was held on the HackerRank platform with a total of 20 different programming questions under easy, medium, and hard categories. Participants were expected to answer questions within six hours time period in order to test their quick thinking ability and teamwork. PARTICIPANTS PERSPECTIVE Opportunity to gain experience and confidence in a hackathon setting. The shorter duration of competition leads to a more intense and focused environment that can foster creativity and innovation. Encourages collaboration and teamwork.
