October 1, 2023 · 8:30 AM - 11:30 AM @ Laboratory Building, Kelaniya, Faculty of Computing and Technology
Description
The "Walking Together" project, organized by the IEEE Computer Society at the University of Kelaniya, was a heartwarming initiative that brought together the university community to celebrate Children's and Elders' Day while honoring the unsung heroes of our campus – the dedicated cleaning and security staff and their families. This unique project aimed to bridge generational gaps and foster a sense of togetherness and appreciation. It recognized the invaluable contributions of the cleaning and security staff who worked tirelessly behind the scenes to maintain the university's environment and safety. As part of this celebration, we extended a warm invitation to the children of these staff members to visit the university premises. We believed that by introducing them to the university environment, we could ignite their dreams and inspire them to aspire to higher education. It actively encouraged these young minds in the realm of technology, showcasing the benefits and opportunities it held. Through interactive sessions and engaging activities, we aimed to spark their curiosity and nurture their interest in technology, helping them envision a future where they could leverage these skills to succeed in life. The event was indeed a joyful amalgamation of various activities. There were games and storytelling sessions tailored for the children. Heartfelt interactions between the students and faculty with the elders added a touch of warmth to the day. It created a platform for university students, faculty, and staff to come together in a spirit of unity and gratitude, fostering a sense of belonging within our university community. This evening was dedicated to creating lasting memories for the children and elders alike. It emphasized the importance of cherishing each moment and building strong connections across generations. As a part of our commitment to the betterment of our university family, the project also involved distributing school stationary items to the students, further emphasizing the value of education and supporting young learners in their academic pursuits. These donations aimed to make a positive impact on the lives of these essential members of our university family, ensuring that they had the necessary tools to succeed in their studies. 'Walking Together' was not just a celebration; it was a testament to the power of community, love, and appreciation. It reminded us all that when we walked together, we created a brighter and more inclusive future for everyone, especially the young minds who held the keys to tomorrow's advancements.
