The third consecutive edition of the IntelliHack series, IntelliHack 3.0, the premier machine learning hackathon of the year, was presented by the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of University of Colombo School of Computing in 2023. First launched in 2019, Intellihack was introduced to the community to familiarise young students with machine learning principles and encourage them to devise inventive self-learning systems. The main goal of IntelliHack 3.0, was to make people more aware of machine learning and artificial intelligence and to create opportunities for students interested in machine learning at Sri Lankan universities. The event created an atmosphere for the participants to come up with new ideas and solutions for real problems by fostering an environment that encouraged innovation and creative problem-solving. The hackathon was followed by two workshops held prior, on February 12 and 26, 2023, to give sound knowledge about the deployment process of ML models using cloud applications to the undergraduate audience. IntelliHack 3.0 was held in two phases, the first being the proposal submission phase. From almost 35 proposals, expertise in the industry selected the best 10 proposals, which advanced to the implementation phase. The event spanned from February 12th to May 7th, 2023, and proposal submissions were open from February 19th to March 7th, 2023. Following a competitive implementation round undertaken by the top 10 teams, the final presentations and demonstrations were held on the 7th of May 2023.
