IEEE SB at UOP Open Day 2023

July 1, 2023 · 3:30 AM - 11:30 AM @ Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Peradeniya, Faculty Of Engineering

Description

The goal of the IEEE showcase at Open Day was to give everyone in the community—from young children to senior citizens—insights into technology. The committee members of the student branch and the committee members of the sub chapters together with undergraduates from the electrical and electronics department carried out this. Event from IEEE Student Branch - Introduction to Logic Gates, 4 bit adder circuit, Comparator circuit, Flip flops, 3 judges circuit demonstration. All above logic things were implemented. Mentor Desk Programme -from this program we were able to identify interesting fields of participants and what kind of support we can provide as IEEE Student Branch Event from the collaboration of Power and Energy Society and Women in Engineering- The event organized at the University of Peradeniya's Open Day by IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) and IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) focused on imparting practical knowledge about household electrical safety devices. The program began with an explanation of the fundamental principles of safety devices commonly used in homes. Attendees were provided with accessible information regarding the operation of these devices and their significance in preventing electrical accidents. Earth ground faults, a common electrical hazard, were also discussed to increase awareness. The program underscored the numerous advantages associated with the utilization of safety devices in homes, emphasizing their role in preventing electric shocks, fires, and property damage. The importance of incorporating these devices in every household was highlighted as a measure to ensure personal safety and property protection. Additionally, the program introduced attendees to the basics of wiring regulations established by the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET). These regulations serve as essential guidelines to guarantee the safety and compliance of electrical installations. The different types of wiring, including ring type and radial type, were also explained in a straightforward manner. Attendees gained insights into when to use each type based on their specific electrical requirements. In summary, the program on household electrical safety devices, organized in collaboration with IEEE WIE and IEEE PES, aimed to educate the public about ensuring safety at home. This was achieved by providing clear and understandable information about safety devices, their significance, and the basic principles of electrical installations. Event from Microwave Theory and Technology Society- Introduction on Pico Satellite and made a transmitter circuit to show how radio signals transmitted. Enthusiastic ones had a chance to listen to a transmitted audio signal through a radio Event from Communications Society - Antenna implementation for Satellite Image Capturing. A turnstile antenna was implemented and set up to capture the APT signals transmitted from NOAA satellites, and reconstructed them to create clean weather images. Using a pre pre-tuned transmitter and some receivers, a FoxHunt Competition was held as an outdoor activity. Winners were awarded with small gifts. The idea and the theories behind the FoxHunt competition was explained and introduced many of the participants to that activity for the first time in their life. A practical demonstration about the SlowScan TV method was carried out to demonstrate a one way of data transmitting techniques. Event from Robotics and Automation Society- Demonstration on Robot Arm and its applications Demonstration on Line following robots Micromouse robot presentation
