TechnoMind School Level Webinar: Day 01
April 22, 2023 · 12:30 PM - 3:00 PM @ Online event
Description
The IEEE Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC Research University (IEEE IAS of SLTC) in collaboration with The Robotic and Rover Division of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space Chapter of SLTC Research University (SEDS SLTC) have completed their latest project, “TechnoMind.” “TechnoMind” can be considered another excellent attempt by the IEEE IAS of SLTC in collaboration with SEDS SLTC Robotic & Rover Division, to encourage the next generation of engineers and inventors. Project "TechnoMind” initiated as a Workshop-based project with the goal of inspiring the next generation of innovators. The whole event was categorized into three main events. Workshop Series Competition & Exhibition The initiation of an enlivening project, TechnoMind, was on 20th November 2022 with the start of the official promotions. The participants were registered for the first two phases, The Workshop Series, The Competition and The Exhibition, via google forms which were shared all over the country through social media platforms. The Workshop Series initiated the project on 10th December 2022 offering two intermediate-level workshops on Robotic Control Systems (150+ participants), STEM empowerment, product design (110+ participants), biomedical engineering (100+ participants), and the Sri Lankan Robotics Industry, conducted via Zoom. Beginner-level workshops for 15 – 20-year-olds in Sri Lanka covered Arduino Basics, ESP Microcontrollers, Modern Engineering, AI and Robotics Future, offering e-certificates and valuable STEM education. The program's success was emphasized by the participation of around 200 students in beginner-level workshops. The Competition was conducted for students and undergraduates to apply knowledge from the Four-Day Workshop Series. The competition is divided into two phases: a virtual quiz and a physical competition where teams-built rovers. The top 15 teams qualified for the next phase. The competition also included a racetrack bot creation competition for undergraduates. The top three winners in each category received awards, certificates, and cash prizes. These competitions aimed to showcase skills, gain recognition, and apply new knowledge in a practical setting. Entries not complying with the rules were disqualified. Separate competitions for undergraduates and students took place over the course of two days. Day 1 of the robotics and automation program was an eagerly anticipated Zoom meeting that brought together a community of over 200 school students from across the country. The evening began with the organizing team convening at 5:30 PM to ensure that all technical aspects, particularly the Zoom setup, were perfectly aligned for a seamless and immersive experience. It was imperative that everything was in order to make this virtual gathering a success. As a testament to their dedication, the guest speakers arrived 15 minutes ahead of the scheduled start time at 6:00 PM, demonstrating their commitment to a smooth kickoff. This early arrival allowed for any last-minute adjustments and ensured that the event would begin promptly. At precisely 6:00 PM, the virtual Zoom meeting commenced, with Dasun Pramodhya taking the reins as the moderator of the session. Dasun's expert facilitation set the tone for the evening, skillfully navigating the virtual landscape as he guided the proceedings. He initiated the meeting by providing an informative introduction about TechnoMind, the organization behind this transformative program. This introduction served to orient participants, giving them context and a clear understanding of the program's objectives and structure. With the stage set, the spotlight then shifted to the guest speaker of the evening, Mr. Ushan Chaminda, Lead Explorer & CEO of Gavesha Labs. Dasun Pramodhya introduced Mr. Chaminda with eloquence, highlighting his impressive credentials and extensive experience in the field of robotics and automation. Mr. Chaminda, a seasoned professional and a prominent figure in the industry, was entrusted with delivering a captivating session that would shape the students' understanding of robotics. Mr. Chaminda's presentation lasted approximately 1.15 hours, during which he shared his wealth of knowledge and insights on robotics and automation. As the Lead Explorer & CEO of Gavesha Labs, his expertise delved into the intricacies of the field, shedding light on its applications, advancements, and future prospects. The audience was captivated as they absorbed the information, gaining a deeper appreciation for the world of robotics and its profound impact on various industries. Following Mr. Chaminda's illuminating presentation, the session transitioned into an interactive Q&A session. This segment allowed participants to actively engage with the material presented, seek clarifications, and pose thought-provoking questions. It was a valuable opportunity for the students to tap into the speaker's expertise and further enhance their understanding of the subject matter. As the clock neared 8:30 PM, Dasun Pramodhya returned to the forefront for the conclusion of the session. He provided a succinct recap of the key takeaways from Mr. Chaminda's presentation and the Q&A session. Additionally, he extended gratitude to all participants and speakers, acknowledging their active participation and contributions to the event's success. With that, Day 1 of the robotics and automation program came to a close. The participants left the virtual gathering with newfound knowledge, inspiration, and a heightened sense of anticipation for the upcoming workshops and activities that would allow them to apply their newly acquired insights and skills. It was a promising start to a transformative journey into the world of robotics and automation, led by the experienced Mr. Ushan Chaminda, Lead Explorer & CEO of Gavesha Labs. “ I'm very satisfied about this workshop series. Thank you for organize it ” ~ Heshan Rashmika, Christ King Collage - Tudella “ It is an interesting session. ” ~ Oshan Jayasooriya, Lexicon International School “ Organizing did an excellent job in organizing this fantastic class series. ” ~ Gavesh Bulathsinhala, Ananda College Colombo
