TechnoMind School Level Webinar: Day 02

April 23, 2023 · 12:30 PM - 2:30 PM @ Online event

Description

The IEEE Industry Applications Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC Research University (IEEE IAS of SLTC) in collaboration with The Robotic and Rover Division of the Students for the Exploration and Development of Space Chapter of SLTC Research University (SEDS SLTC) have completed their latest project, “TechnoMind.” “TechnoMind” can be considered another excellent attempt by the IEEE IAS of SLTC in collaboration with SEDS SLTC Robotic & Rover Division, to encourage the next generation of engineers and inventors. Project "TechnoMind” initiated as a Workshop-based project with the goal of inspiring the next generation of innovators. The whole event was categorized into three main events. Workshop Series Competition & Exhibition The Workshop Series carried out in a manner to educate and inspire both school and undergraduates students. The workshops carried out focusing on the fundamentals of robotics which would be suited for beginners in the robotics field. The Competition was held following the workshop series. This allowed participants to demonstrate their skills based on the knowledge and information gained throughout the series. The Exhibition was held to provide an opportunity for young entrepreneurs and innovators to showcase their talents to industry professionals and other interested parties. The initiation of an enlivening project, TechnoMind, was on 20th November 2022 with the start of the official promotions. The participants were registered for the first two phases, The Workshop Series, The Competition and The Exhibition, via google forms which were shared all over the country through social media platforms. The Workshop Series initiated the project on 10th December 2022 offering two intermediate-level workshops on Robotic Control Systems (150+ participants), STEM empowerment, product design (110+ participants), biomedical engineering (100+ participants), and the Sri Lankan Robotics Industry, conducted via Zoom. Beginner-level workshops for 15 – 20-year-olds in Sri Lanka covered Arduino Basics, ESP Microcontrollers, Modern Engineering, AI and Robotics Future, offering e-certificates and valuable STEM education. The program's success was emphasized by the participation of around 200 students in beginner-level workshops. The Competition was conducted for students and undergraduates to apply knowledge from the Four-Day Workshop Series. The competition is divided into two phases: a virtual quiz and a physical competition where teams-built rovers. The top 15 teams qualified for the next phase. The competition also included a racetrack bot creation competition for undergraduates. The top three winners in each category received awards, certificates, and cash prizes. These competitions aimed to showcase skills, gain recognition, and apply new knowledge in a practical setting. Entries not complying with the rules were disqualified. Separate competitions for undergraduates and students took place over the course of two days. The second day of the robotics and automation program commenced with meticulous planning by the organizing team, who gathered at 5:45 PM to ensure that all technical aspects, particularly the Zoom setup, were in perfect order for a seamless and engaging experience. This attention to detail was essential to ensure that the virtual gathering would be a resounding success. At precisely 6:00 PM, the Zoom meeting began, with Chethana Jayani stepping into the role of the moderator for the evening. Chethana, with her adeptness in facilitation, initiated the meeting by offering a warm welcome and a comprehensive introduction about TechnoMind, setting the stage for the enlightening proceedings to follow. She also introduced the exciting Workshop Series, which would be a cornerstone of the program. Chethana then transitioned to introducing the esteemed guest speaker of the evening, the Explorer & CEO of Gavesha Labs. This introduction served to highlight the speaker's remarkable qualifications and experiences, setting the tone for what would be an informative and engaging session. Mr. Ushan Chaminda, the Explorer & CEO of Gavesha Labs, took the virtual stage for a captivating session that spanned approximately 1 hour and 20 minutes. During this session, he shared invaluable insights on how to build robots with Gavesha, covering not only the basics but also diving into advanced topics. This included guidance on motor control, coding for robots, and a detailed overview of the Gavesha mobile app, providing participants with comprehensive knowledge to excel in the upcoming challenges. As the session drew to a close, participants extended their gratitude to the speaker for sharing his expertise and insights. A Token of Appreciation was also presented to Mr. Ushan Chaminda as a token of thanks for his valuable contribution. Finally, at 8:00 PM, the session concluded, leaving participants with a wealth of knowledge, motivation, and a clear roadmap for their journey into the world of robotics and automation. This Zoom meeting had successfully set the stage for the upcoming workshops and activities, equipping students with the skills and information they needed to excel in the program's challenges. “ love to learn coding from gawesha app ” ~ Gavesh Bulathsinhala “ It is an interesting session. ” ~ G.G.Sasun Sithnuka Dissanayaka, A/Central College “ This lecture series is very important for us. ” ~ Nipuna Thirasara, Hanwella Rajasinghe Central College
