The IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student | Young Professionals | Women in Engineering (IEEE SL SYW) Congress 2023 was the 12th instalment of the flagship event of the IEEE Sri Lanka Section. It was a gathering of nearly 200 undergraduates, graduates, academics and industry professionals from all across the country. The theme of this year’s Congress was “Dreams Conquer Boundaries”, implying that following the past challenging years the country has faced, it was time for Sri Lankans to put forth new innovative solutions and progress towards reaching their dreams in whichever path they desire. Under this theme, the Congress championed entrepreneurship, innovation, diversity and inclusion and climate action through its plethora of keynote speeches, technical sessions, hands-on workshops, panel discussions, professional development sessions and team-building activities. This 3-day event took place from the 3rd to the 5th of November 2023 at the Carolina Beach Hotel, Chilaw, Sri Lanka. The third day of Congress comprised mainly of Chapter Awareness Sessions. A representative of the IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society conducted an awareness session on their Society, discussing its mission, current initiatives, and the benefits of being a member. In addition, IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka, IEEE Women in Engineering Sri Lanka Section and IEEE Sri Lanka Section SIGHT carried out awareness sessions, enlightening the delegates about the various events they carry out and myriad benefits of volunteering with them. The session carried out by the IEEE WIE Sri Lanka Section also discussed about the growing issue of climate change and how women in engineering can contribute to climate action. These sessions were followed by a series of Chapter stalls, where all the Sri Lanka Chapters of IEEE Societies were able to showcase their initiatives to delegates, host mini-competitions and distribute promotional materials among them, aimed at membership development and increased Chapter awareness. The IEEE SL SYW Congress 2023 was supported by the IEEE Signal Processing Society, IEEE Young Professionals, IEEE Vehicular Technology Society, the IEEE Aerospace and Electronic Systems Society and IEEE Oceanic Engineering Society. Tech One Global was the Bronze Partner for the event, which was also partnered by Carolina Beach Hotel and T-LAB Clothing.
