The "Education Empowerment Workshop," held online on November 20, 2023, marked a pivotal moment in Sri Lanka's journey towards educational innovation. Organized by IEEE Sri Lanka Section SIGHT as part of their "Empowering Communities Through Humanitarian Innovation" workshop series, the workshop brought together a diverse group of stakeholders to tackle crucial challenges and foster groundbreaking initiatives. Speakers: Waren Yanna Apen Ekka Community: The community contributed valuable insights into positive thinking and attitude-changing workshops, drawing from their eight years of experience conducting programs for school children, youth organizations, and private institutions throughout Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka Inspire and IEEE Nanasa Sri Lanka Inspire, representing IEEE Young Professionals, and IEEE Nanasa, a part of IEEE Sri Lanka Section SIGHT, did introductory sessions, shedding light on their roles and contributions to education. Content Discussed The workshop covered diverse themes related to educational challenges and innovations in Sri Lanka: Educational Challenges: The session acknowledged the existing challenges in the Sri Lankan education system, emphasizing the need for comprehensive programs to guide students and provide various educational and career opportunities. Higher Education Landscape: Detailed discussions on existing higher education institutions, diploma programs, and professional qualifications highlighted the need for continuous improvement in higher education. Sri Lanka's Education Status: Examination results, campus placements, and the overall status of education in Sri Lanka were presented, with a focus on the achievements of students. Humanitarian Programs by Sri Lanka Inspire: Insights into Sri Lanka Inspire's role in implementing humanitarian programs, including educational sessions and workshops, were discussed. Innovative Educational Initiatives: Introduction of innovative programs, such as robotics and information technology education, aimed at enhancing students' learning experiences. Practical Learning and Hands-On Experience: Emphasis on the importance of practical learning and hands-on experiences, particularly in robotics and information technology education. Interactive Sessions with Students: Descriptions of sessions involving direct interaction with students, including workshops and activities, highlighting the positive impact on students.
