Career Fest – Career Guidance Program

The IEEE Computer Society SBC of SLTC Research University, in collaboration with the School of Computing & IT, organized “Career Fest” for the student community at SLTC Research University as a first-time initiative of the Computer Society. We recognized that many students were unaware of or overwhelmed by their career goals, and we aimed to provide guidance and support. The complete career guidance program was held physically in the first week of June with the support of a well-known IT company called 99X. The career guidance program offered a range of resources and activities to assist students in developing their career goals. We began by discussing various career fields and the skills and qualifications needed to succeed in each. We also provided networking, resume writing, and interviewing-related seminars to help students improve their employability. The session, titled "How to level up your CV and LinkedIn profile," was delivered online via Zoom on July 12, 2023, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. It was conducted by Mr. Prasanna Vaikunthavasan, a Technical Lead, and Full-Stack Software Engineer at 99x, a prestigious IT company in Sri Lanka. The session emphasized practical strategies for enhancing both CVs and LinkedIn profiles to improve employment prospects. Key aspects covered included optimizing the CV and LinkedIn headline, incorporating strategic keywords and action verbs, highlighting accomplishments and skills, and harnessing the power of networking. Mr. Vaikunthavasan provided insightful advice and best practices for crafting exceptional CVs and LinkedIn profiles that effectively conveyed one's expertise and contributions to prospective employers. To gauge participant feedback, we conducted a post-session survey using Google Forms.
