InspiHER{MAT101} continued its journey with the second session, “Basics of MATLAB,” held on 18th December 2023 from 07:00 pm to 09:00 pm via Zoom . This session was conducted by Dr. Vishaka Basnayake and marked the beginning of the MATLAB Workshop. The session covered the following topics: Introduction to MATLAB : Participants were instructed to use MATLAB for the entire competition. MATLAB Interface and Commands : Participants were familiarized with the MATLAB interface and basic commands for data manipulation. Variables and Data Types : Participants learned how to load a dataset into MATLAB, assigning appropriate variables for dates and temperature readings. Basic Arithmetic Operations : Participants calculated basic statistics such as mean, median, and range for the temperature readings. Arrays and Matrices : Participants utilized arrays or matrices to store and manipulate temperature data efficiently. The session was interactive and engaging, with Dr. Basnayake providing clear explanations and demonstrations. Participants actively engaged in the session, gaining a solid understanding of MATLAB basics. This session laid the groundwork for the first round, “InspiHER {MAT101},” of the InspiHER{Tech} V2.0 competition. The participants are now better equipped to tackle the challenges of the competition, and we look forward to seeing their progress in the upcoming sessions.
