Description
IEEE අඬහැරය is an awareness program organised by the Member Activities Sub-committee of the Sri Lanka Student Activities Committee (SLSAC), intended to instill an interest in IEEE among undergraduates of Sri Lanka, while retaining existing volunteers of the section. The event mainly focuses on Membership Development and Retention, while encouraging IEEE Student Branches to organize events in collaboration with the SLSAC. IEEE අඬහැරය 2023 2023, organized by the IEEE Student Branch of SLTC in collaboration with the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student Activities Committee, took place on April 11, 2023, at 07:00 PM through the Zoom Online Video Conferencing Platform. This edition of the IEEE අඬහැරය was promoted in conjunction with the Sinhala and Tamil New Year, serving as the thematic backdrop for the event. Commencing the event, Mr. Anjana Dodampe (Immediate Past Chair, IEEE Techverse Sri Lanka) delivered a Keynote Speech, providing participants with insights into IEEE, volunteering opportunities, the advantages of IEEE Student Membership, and his personal IEEE journey. Subsequent to the keynote, Mr. Manula Rajapakse (Chairperson 2022/23, IEEE IAS Student Branch Chapter of SLTC) conducted a session outlining the offerings of the IEEE Student Branch of SLTC, its technical societies, affinity groups, as well as showcasing various projects and awards garnered over the years. This session aimed to familiarize new members with the opportunities available within the IEEE Student Branch of SLTC. An engaging online quiz session followed, challenging participants with questions to test their knowledge of IEEE. The winner of this session received a new IEEE Student Membership and an IEEE CS Student Membership. Concluding the event, Ms. Thihara Mallikaratchy led an awareness session on the IEEE Computer Society, highlighting the various benefits associated with an IEEE CS Membership.
