The IEEE Uva Wellassa University Student Branch proudly presents the fourth edition of IMPETUS, its annual technical magazine. Launched in 2023, this edition showcases a vibrant collection of articles, digital art, and comics selected through island-wide competitions. Competitions Overview: Article Writing Competition: Received 90 submissions based on themes such as "War and Technology," "Technology for Nature," and "Tech Bubbles." Digital Art Competition: Featured two categories—Generative AI-based art and traditional graphic designing—with 50 submissions based on themes like "Future of Printing," "Genetic Engineering and Human Future," and "Seamless Automation and Future of Our Planet." Comic Competition: Open theme, requiring all comics to be technology-related. Selection Process: An expert panel of judges, comprising university lecturers and industry experts, carefully selected the submissions for publication. Special Interviews: Included interviews with Mr. Lakshan Madushanka (Treasurer, IEEE Sri Lanka Section), Mr. Heshan Mallawaarachchi (Chair-Elect, IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka), and Mr. Chamil Wijenayake (CEO, WIA Systems), offering insights into their personal journeys and thoughts on the future. Launch Event: The magazine was officially launched on 28th January 2024, at the Technology Main Lecture Theatre of Uva Wellassa University. Dignitaries such as Prof. Kolitha B Wijesekara (Vice Chancellor, Uva Wellassa University), Prof. Amila Sandaruwan (Dean, Faculty of Applied Sciences), and Prof. Sandya Kumari (Counselor, IEEE Uva Wellassa University Student Branch) graced the event. Guest Keynotes: Ms. Lihini Rajapakshe (Student Activities Chair, IEEE Sri Lanka Section | Secretary, IEEE WIE Sri Lanka Section) and Mr. Lakshan Madushanka delivered inspiring speeches. Sponsorship: The magazine's production was sponsored by WIA Systems, a prominent software development firm in Sri Lanka. Success and Impact: The fourth edition of IMPETUS was a tremendous success, marked by a significant increase in competition entries and volunteer participation. The event attracted a large and enthusiastic audience, making it the most successful edition to date. The IEEE Uva Wellassa University Student Branch extends its gratitude to all participants, sponsors, and supporters for making this edition of IMPETUS a resounding success.
