Overview of the Event The 3rd IEEE Open Day was successfully held on Saturday, 3rd August 2024, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM at the Uva Wellassa University premises. This year's Open Day was unique, featuring a two-part session that catered to the diverse interests of the freshers while offering them a comprehensive understanding of what IEEE stands for and the value it brings to its members. First Event Detail Flyer Shared with the Public Detailed Event Information Flyer Morning Session: Keynote Address The morning session, which took place from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, was led by Mr. Dinul Dassanayake, a distinguished alumnus of Uva Wellassa University. Mr. Dassanayake, who is a former Chairperson of the IEEE Uva Wellassa University Student Branch and the Membership Development Coordinator for the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Student Activities Committee in 2023, delivered a compelling keynote speech. He introduced the attendees to IEEE on a global scale, elaborating on the extensive membership benefits, national and international volunteering opportunities, and the various career development prospects that IEEE offers. Additionally, Mr. Dassanayake shared his personal IEEE journey, highlighting how his involvement with IEEE has significantly contributed to his professional growth and personal development. His inspiring words resonated with the 140 freshers in attendance, motivating them to explore the vast opportunities that IEEE membership provides. Library Auditorium, Uva Wellassa University Prepared for the Open Day 2024 Participants for the Morning Session Keynote Speech by Mr Dinul Dassanayake Evening Session: Entity Stalls and Interactive Activities The second part of the Open Day, held from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM, featured a vibrant and interactive session where five entities affiliated with the IEEE Uva Wellassa University Student Branch showcased their activities. The entities included: Women in Engineering (WIE) Affinity Group Robotics and Automation Society (RAS) Chapter Industry Applications Society (IAS) Chapter Computer Society Chapter (soon to be officially inaugurated) IEEE Uva Wellassa University Student Branch These entities set up stalls at the E1 lecture hall, where they introduced the unique opportunities and benefits they offer to members. Each entity emphasized how involvement in their specific activities could enhance the students' academic and professional careers, while also contributing to personal growth through leadership, teamwork, and innovation. The stalls were not just informational; they were designed to engage the students actively. Participants were encouraged to take part in quizzes, interactive games, and challenges organized by the entities, with exciting prizes awarded to the winners. These activities provided a fun and engaging way for the students to learn more about the different facets of IEEE and its associated groups.
