The IEEE Women in Engineering (WIE) Student Branch Affinity Group of the University of Peradeniya successfully organized the event 'Beyond Horizons' on December 11th 2023, leaving a lasting impact on all attendees. The session, aimed at inspiring and motivating young women to explore tailored industry opportunities within the engineering field. Ms. Bhashini Jayathunga, as the Chair, warmly welcomed the attendees, followed by a distinguished introduction of the speaker by Professor Maheshi Dissanyake. Our esteemed guest speaker, Ms. Michelle Fernando, shared her remarkable journey from a graduate engineer at the University of Peradeniya to her current role as superintendent in industrial networks in Mining Systems - Coal DevOpsn team at BHP, Australia, providing a beacon of inspiration for all present. Her insights into opportunities for women in engineering and leadership development were both inspiring and invaluable. The vote of thanks was graciously delivered by the Secretary, Ms. Ashini Senara, expressing sincere appreciation to all contributors. With a participation of approximately 20 undergraduates, the event concluded on a high note, with refreshments provided to all attendees.
