EMINENCE 4.0

April 6, 2024 · 2:00 AM - 11:00 AM @ Department of Electrical and Information Engineering, Galle, Faculty of Engineering

Description

Eminence 4.0 is a technical competition followed by a webinar series organized by WIE (Women In Engineering) Affinity Group that inspires female undergraduates to deepen their technical understanding of certain software coupled with industry applications. This Webinar series and Competition is related to the Software, Electronics, Telecommunication, and Electrical Fields. Similar to the previous iteration, the fourth Eminence edition is an inter-university competition. Eminence 4.0 stands as a unique event to promote WIE among young undergraduates and in the technical field-related industry. Event Objectives and Goals ● To increase the participation of female undergraduates in technical competitions. ● Inspiring undergraduates to follow their academic interest in a career in Engineering and Science. ● To improve the ability of teamwork, communication skills, leadership skills, innovative ideas, and time management. ● Motivating undergraduates to take part in technical competitions and encouraging teamwork. ● To uplift the reputation of the Faculty of Engineering, University of Ruhuna. ● To foster an inclusive environment where students from various backgrounds can share their cultural perspectives and engineering practices, enriching the learning experience for all participants. Process Summary The start of Eminence 4.0 was the awareness session on Eminence with a former WIE secretary as the guest speaker. The awareness session was held on the 9th of March. The webinar series started on the 16th of March. The webinar series consisted of 2 webinars related to the tasks of the competition. The second and final webinar was held on the 24th of March. The competition was held on 6th April 2024 at the Department of Electrical and Information Engineering from 7.00 a.m. onwards. The competition was a success with the participation of 20 teams. Out of them, 19 teams from the University of Ruhuna and a team from the University of Colombo. Matlab, Packet Tracer, HackerRank, and Innovation task were the tasks given to the competitors. The required software and other requirements were informed to the competitors beforehand. With good management, the competition was held without any circumstances. An excellent illustration of intellectual and academic brilliance that transcends university boundaries is the Eminence Competition. This esteemed interuniversity tournament brings together the brightest minds from all academic institutions and is a wonderful celebration of talent, creativity, and teamwork. Eminence is a platform for accomplished students and aspiring academics to showcase their skill, inventiveness, and originality, it's much more than just a competition. For the second round of the innovation task, if two groups get the same marks, the judge panel's decision will be the final decision • All the participants should complete all 4 tasks of the competition. Task 1: MATLAB • Task: Design the given power system simulation • Required software: MATLAB R2016 and later • Time Duration: 2 hours • Submission: MATLAB Simulink file with figures. • Marks Allocation: Based on simple and clean diagrams and providing the required level of completeness Task 2: HackerRank • Task: Problem-Solving with Programming • Need a HackerRank account fora team and web browser. The account username should be the same as the team’s name. • Time Duration: 2 hours • Submission: After completing the code, the team can submit the code or it will automatically be submitted at the end of the time. • Marks Allocation: Based on total points for questions solved by the team. When points are equal, the time to reach that level will be considered. Task 3: Packet Tracer • Task: Configure a given network according to the given specifications. • Required software: Packet Tracer (latest version - Cisco Packet Tracer 8.2.1.0118) • Time Duration: 1.5 hours • Submission: Packet Tracer work file, Screenshots • Marks Allocation: Completion of tasks Task 4: Innovation • Task: present an electronic design for this task. It can be a pre- implemented design/innovative idea. (Innovative ideas will be specifically considered) • There are two subtasks: Same task using Basic Analog Digital Electronics without microcontrollers Same task using Microcontrollers based on Arduino (any version) • Use a PowerPoint presentation for the Evaluation. The presentation should contain a maximum of 5 slides. • One of the female participants needs to present • Each group will get 10 min to be evaluated. For the Demonstration: 5 mins | Viva: 5mins • Technical Sections should be explained by a female participant. For Viva, everyone in the group can answer the questions • Areas of marks allocation: Presentation skills, Innovative ideas, Implementation, Viva Event Report: https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1yReZMFE1ZRNJvGzu8Z3hm6isNS6OLByH?usp=sharing
