Ham Radio Satellite Communication The fourth workshop of the series "Navigating the Skies: Ham Radio Satellite Communication Workshop” was conducted by Mr. Ruwan Abeykoon, a distinguished software engineer and architect with over 20 years of experience designing innovative solutions in mobile networks and other ICT domains. His expertise and enthusiasm have played a pivotal role in the advancement of mobile technologies. Ruwan is an avid amateur radio operator and outdoor enthusiast, with a passion for designing antennas and transceivers. His combination of technical skills and adventurous spirit makes him a compelling speaker, offering valuable insights on topics ranging from ICT and radio communication to outdoor exploration. The workshop offered an exploration of satellite amateur communication. The participants were introduced to the basics of satellite-based amateur communication, including the fundamentals of using Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and Geostationary satellites. The session also directed the audience on how transmission is possible without a licence. Furthermore, Mr Abeykoon highlighted the AMSAT - The radio amateur satellite cooperation and discussed its role in advancing the field. It was held on the 11th of February 2024 via Zoom spanning for 2 hours.
