RealHack 5.0, the inter-university hackathon organized by the IEEE Student Branch of the University of Kelaniya in collaboration with the Software Engineering Students' Association (SESA) of the University of Kelaniya, concluded with its final round held online on 20th and 21st April 2024. This event brought together the top 15 teams to compete, showcasing their innovative solutions and technical skills. RealHack is known for promoting collaboration, creativity, and problem-solving among university students, providing a platform to tackle real-world challenges through technology. The event has a rich history of fostering innovation and talent in the software engineering community. The timeline of RealHack 5.0 included a pre-hack session on 27th January 2024, where over 300 teams participated in coding challenges and a system design question on HackerRank. From this session, 15 teams were selected to compete in the final hackathon. The final hackathon followed a structured procedure, with teams given a specific time frame to develop their projects. Mentors played a crucial role in guiding and supporting the teams throughout the event. The mentor panelists for RealHack 5.0 Final Hackathon included Mr. Chamin Wickramarathna, Mr. Upuna Keerawella, and Mr. Sugirjan Ragunaathan, all from Insighture. The judging panel consisted of experienced professionals from Insighture, including Mr. Chirath Samaraweera, Mr. Mihidum Jayasinghe, Mr. Krishnamohan Ramachandran, and Mr. Sugirjan Ragunaathan. These judges evaluated the projects based on various criteria, including innovation, technical complexity, and presentation. The winners of RealHack 5.0 were announced during the award ceremony, with Team Encounters emerging as the champions. The first runner-up was Team FireHackers, and the second runner-up was Team CookieBytes. Each winning team received cash prizes and recognition for their outstanding achievements. The award ceremony of RealHack 5.0 was live-streamed, allowing participants, sponsors, and supporters to celebrate the success of the event together.
