Integrated Sensing and Communication (ISAC) in 6G
April 25, 2024 · 8:31 AM - 9:30 AM @ Online event
Description
Radar/sensing and communication systems have functioned separately from each other in the past, with different operating frequencies. Since then, communication systems have increased in number due to advances in electronics and signal processing. This huge demand has caused the operational frequencies of communication systems to overlap with those of legacy radar systems, causing mutual interference, and thereby degrading the performance of both systems. Radio-frequency (RF) convergence is the umbrella of solutions under which the most novel methodologies exist to combat this challenge, where the same spectrum is utilized to jointly improve the sensing and communication functionalities. The use of similar hardware solutions in the two systems has also complemented RF convergence. Thus, an integrated sensing and communication (ISAC) system can be pursued with shared waveform and hardware, and minimal performance degradation for both functionalities. In this talk, the ISAC concept is introduced along with future research directions in this domain.
