Path to Internship '24

April 20, 2024 at 1:30 PM - May 11, 2024 at 11:30 AM @ Malabe, Main Auditorium

Description

"Path to Internship ‘24" was organized as a collaborative effort between the IEEE Student Branch of SLIIT and the IAS Chapter of SLIIT. The event was organized to raise awareness among undergraduates on the value of hands-on experience through internship opportunities. The program encouraged networking with industry professionals, connecting with mentors, and developing practical skills through workshops. It also assisted students in creating effective resumes (Curriculum Vitaes), offered interview tips, and promoted self-reflection for better internship-seeking strategies. Undergraduates often face challenges in securing internships due to a lack of awareness about the importance of hands-on experience, insufficient networking opportunities with industry professionals, and limited guidance on creating effective resumes and preparing for interviews. These factors can hinder their ability to gain practical skills and valuable industry insights, which are crucial for their professional development and career success. “Path to Internship ‘24" was organized to address these challenges by raising awareness among undergraduates about the significance of internships. The event aimed to facilitate networking with industry professionals and mentors, helping students to develop practical skills through interactive workshops. By providing guidance on resume building, interview techniques, and self-reflection, the program sought to equip students with the necessary tools and strategies to effectively seek and secure internship opportunities. Prior to the main event, an online session was held on the 20th of April from 7.00 pm onwards via Zoom. Expert speaker Mr. Praneeth Peiris focused on shaping professional profiles of the participants, including creating effective CVs and building compelling LinkedIn profiles. The main event was held on the 11th of May 2024, with the participation of over 200 students, professionals, and other attendees. The event was an immensely valuable experience, and comprised of a panel discussion led by experts, an interactive session, a comprehensive lecture, and many more sessions related to industry.
