VERTEXTECH – Opening Ceremony

VERTEXTECH was presented by the IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group of SLTC in partnership with Altium Education, a global leader in electronic design software. The main objective of this project was to support and provide opportunities to Sri Lankan undergraduates who prefer to excel in PCB designing. On the 16th of June, the IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group of SLTC hosted the highly anticipated opening ceremony of VERTEXTECH via Zoom, marking another significant milestone in our commitment to fostering collaboration and professional development in the IEEE community. The event brought together a diverse group of professionals, thought leaders, and aspiring undergraduates, all eager to engage, learn, and collaborate. The evening commenced promptly at 8:40 p.m. with a warm welcome speech by Ms. Lavanya Cheshani, the Project Chairperson at VERTEXTECH. Ms. Cheshani's opening remarks set a positive and enthusiastic tone for the event. Following the welcome address, at 8:45 p.m., the spotlight was shifted to Ms. Warunika Hippola, who delivered an insightful speech on Women in Engineering (WIE). Ms. Hippola, the Regional Student Representative of the IEEE Region 10 and the student academic advisor of the IEEE SB of SLTC, provided a comprehensive overview of IEEE WIE, its mission, and its achievements. The goals of WIE in promoting the involvement of women in engineering and supporting their professional development through various programs and initiatives were highlighted. Practical instructions for newcomers on how to join WIE and the numerous benefits of joining WIE were also included in Ms. Hippola’s speech. At 9:06 p.m., a brief but impactful video presentation was presented on the Success of Altium in the Global Scholarship program. Altium's achievements and the significant impact of their scholarship initiatives on the global stage were showcased in that one-minute video. The event was continued with speeches from two esteemed guest speakers. At 9:07 p.m., the virtual stage was taken by Mr. Rea Callender, Vice President of Education at Altium Education. The goal of Altium Education, valuable and important information on global student reach, and the Altium student lab were shared by Mr. Callender. His speech was motivating and enlightening, providing attendees with actionable advice and inspiration. Following his address, a token of appreciation was presented to Mr. Callender for his valuable contribution to the event. At 9:13 p.m., another speech was delivered by Ms. Nasska Medrano, the project manager of Altium Education and Training Programs. The positive impact of Altium Education and the global scholarship program were discussed by her. Her words resonated with many attendees, sparking thoughtful discussions and reflections. A token of appreciation was also presented to Ms. Medrano, acknowledging her impactful participation. The event was transitioned into an interactive Q & A session at 9:19 p.m. This segment provided attendees with the opportunity to engage directly with the speakers, ask questions, and seek further insights. The session was dynamic and informative, fostering a deeper connection between the audience and the speakers. After that, attendees were encouraged to take screenshots creating a sense of community. The event was concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Srinika Nimnadi, the Project Secretary of VERTEXTECH, at 9:29 p.m., Ms. Nimnadi expressed heartfelt gratitude to all speakers, attendees, and organizers for their contributions to the success of the event. The opening ceremony of VERTEXTECH officially ended at 9:32 p.m., marking the conclusion of a highly successful and memorable evening.
