Ziyectro Knowledge Sharing Session 01

June 21, 2024 · 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM @ Online event

Description

Ziyectro was an online workshop series presented by the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC. This program, designed as a premier platform for delving into embedded systems, offered an enriching journey through four distinct workshops. The event aimed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of embedded systems through a structured and interactive learning experience. contributions to the field The evening began with a captivating welcome speech, setting the tone for the workshop and highlighting the objectives of the Ziyectro series. Following this, an introduction to the IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter of SLTC was presented. This segment provided attendees with valuable insights into the organization's mission, vision, and industrial electronics, helping them grasp the broader context of the event. The project chairperson, Chandeepa Janith, delivered a speech emphasizing the significance and benefits of Ziyectro for participants to enhance their knowledge and skills in embedded systems. This speech aimed to inspire and motivate the attendees, underscoring the importance of staying updated with technological advancements and understanding the practical applications of embedded systems in various industries. The essence of the session began as Mr. Pahan Mendis took over as the resource person. During his segment, he provided a thorough introduction to PIC microcontrollers and their programming. Mr. Mendis's extensive experience and expertise in embedded systems were evident as he discussed the architecture and capabilities of PIC microcontrollers. This foundational knowledge was crucial for participants to grasp the subsequent topics. Following a brief transition, Ms. Chathuni Wijegunawardana continued the workshop. She delved deeper into the subject, focusing on the development environment setup and basic programming concepts. Participants were guided through the installation and setup of the Integrated Development Environment (IDE) for PIC programming, highlighting the MPLAB X IDE. This was the essential step for enabling them to write, test, and debug their code effectively. Ms. Wijegunawardana then introduced the basic programming concepts for PIC microcontrollers. This segment covered the syntax, structure, and basic commands used in programming these devices. Understanding these fundamental concepts was vital for participants to develop efficient and effective programs. This session laid the groundwork for more advanced topics which are to be covered in the subsequent workshops. A hands-on session on digital I/O was a highlight of the workshop. During this practical session, participants learned how to work with digital inputs and outputs, including reading from devices like keypads or buttons and controlling outputs like LEDs. These hands-on applications of the concept reinforced the theoretical knowledge and provided participants with the skills needed to implement real-world projects using PIC microcontrollers. The evening concluded with a Q&A session, providing participants with the opportunity to seek clarifications, ask questions, and engage directly with the resource persons. This interactive segment was designed to address individual concerns and provide tailored guidance, ensuring that all participants were left with a clear understanding of the material and confidence in their ability to apply what they had learned.
