IEEE Awareness Session for SLIIT Curtin Colombo

March 1, 2024 · 7:00 AM - 8:00 AM @ Colombo

Description

On Friday, March 1st, an IEEE awareness session was held at Curtin Colombo from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. The event aimed to introduce students to the benefits and opportunities provided by IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers), the world’s largest technical professional organization. The session was organized by the IEEE Student Branch of SLIIT and focused on informing students about IEEE's various technical societies, affinity groups, resources, and how they can contribute to their professional and academic growth. The presentation was conducted by the IEEE Chairperson of SLIIT, Yohan Joseph, and the Treasurer of the IEEE Student Branch of SLIIT, Pasan Senerath. The session began with an overview of IEEE, highlighting its global presence, with over 400,000 members across 160 countries, and its role in advancing technology and innovation for humanity. The presentation clearly outlined the numerous benefits of IEEE membership, such as access to exclusive technical content, global networking opportunities, career development resources, and chances to participate in international competitions. By sharing success stories and experiences from past events and competitions, such as IEEE SLIIT Xtreme and IEEE Techno Meetups, the presentation created a compelling narrative about the value of being an IEEE member. An interactive Q&A session at the end allowed students to ask questions and get clarifications, creating a more engaging and personal connection with the potential new members. The session provided clear instructions to the students of Curtin Colombo on how to join the IEEE Student Branch at SLIIT, with direct links and contact information for the Chairperson and Membership Development Lead, making it easy for students to have direct contact with the Student Branch for further assistance.
