The university-level first round of CyberZee'24 took place online on July 14th, marking the beginning of a highly anticipated series of competitive events. This initial round saw participation from 49 teams, each comprising five members. The competition was structured to challenge the teams’ knowledge and problem-solving skills within a constrained timeframe. The event covered all universities in Sri Lanka, including the University of Moratuwa, University of Ruhuna, University of Kelaniya, University of Jaffna, and all other government and private universities, ensuring broad representation and a diverse range of participants. Each team was provided with login credentials to access the Moodle platform, which served as the virtual venue for the quiz. On the day of the competition, teams logged into the platform and faced a series of 40 questions, designed to test their understanding across a broad range of subjects. The questions were crafted to be challenging, requiring not only accurate knowledge but also quick thinking and decision-making under pressure. Teams had a total of 10 minutes to complete the quiz, adding an element of urgency to the task. The evaluation of performance was based on the average scores obtained by each team. This scoring method ensured that the results reflected the overall ability of the teams to handle the quiz's demands. At the conclusion of this round, the teams were ranked according to their average scores. The top 12 teams, distinguished by their exceptional performance in this rigorous initial round, advanced to the semi-finals. This advancement set the stage for the subsequent levels of competition in CyberZee'24, where the teams would face more complex challenges and further demonstrate their prowess. The successful transition from the first round to the semi-finals highlighted the competitive spirit and intellectual capabilities of the participants, paving the way for an exciting continuation of the quiz series.
