On the 10th of August, 2024, IEEE Y2N Pro hosted the first webinar in their ongoing Battery Technology and Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles Workshop Series. The session, held via Zoom at 6 p.m., featured a noteworthy speaker, Dr. V. Logeeshan, a senior lecturer from the University of Moratuwa. The webinar mainly focused on “Advanced BMS Algorithms,” where Dr. Logeeshan introduced the participants to different algorithms that are used in Battery Management Systems (BMS), an important component in electric vehicles. His insights gave a deep understanding of the novel advancements in BMS technology, covering its roles such as state-of-charge estimation, state-of-charge prediction, active balancing, and thermal management. The audience was comprised of undergraduates, professionals, and enthusiasts in the field of electric vehicles and battery technology. The participants directly engaged with the speaker, making the session engaging and insightful. Dr. Logeeshan emphasised real-world applications of the wide range of BMS algorithms. The webinar was highly informative and provided valuable knowledge on BMS. IEEE Y2N Pro is aimed at providing niche technological learnings that are not typically covered in regular tech talks. The Y2NPro program provides a platform for young industrial learners to enhance their knowledge and gain experience in particular niche areas by learning from industry experts. The workshop organised this year will bring together young professionals interested in Battery Technology and Charging Infrastructure for Electric Vehicles.
