The IEEE Power and Energy Society (PES) Student Branch Chapter held its Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 15 August 2024, in a combined event with IEEE Communication Society (ComSoc) and IEEE Engineering in Medicine and Biology Society (EMBS). The event commenced with the arrival of guests and the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolizing the beginning of a new chapter. Dean Facultyof Engineering, Prof. TL Weerawardene, delivered a warm welcome speech, setting the tone for the event. This was followed by an insightful keynote address from Prof. Buddhika Jayasekara. The first AGM of the day was the PES AGM, which began with presentations from the immediate past president, highlighting the achievements and milestones of the year 2023/2024. Following this, Hansi Perera, the past secretary, delivered the minutes of the previous AGM providing a comprehensive overview of the society’s activities. Our advisor, Ms. Sachethana Ranasinghe, officially appointed the new Executive Committee for the upcoming year, alongside past President, Shakir Wazeer. Vinujitha Pindeniya, the newly appointed president, appointed the new Team Leads for the year 2024/2025. Then the president of IEEE PES KDU for the year 2024/2025 presented the year plan, outlining the society's goals and aspirations for the coming year, concluding the PES KDU AGM. After the arrival of the Vice Chancellor, a significant moment in the event occurred: Senior Prof. JR Lucas conducted a book donation campaign, generously donating 101 books to the Department of Electrical, Electronic, and Telecommunication Engineering. This gesture was greatly appreciated and symbolized the ongoing support for academic excellence within the university. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the Secretary of EMBS, who acknowledged the efforts of all those involved in making the past year a success and expressed optimism for the year ahead. A group photo marked the end of a successful and memorable AGM.
