The IEEE IAS UWU SB Chapter recently organized an insightful industry visit to IFS Sri Lanka R&D International (Pvt) Ltd., providing IT undergraduates with an in-depth look into one of the leading research and development companies in the field. A total of 55 students from Uva Wellassa University participated in this informative visit, which spanned over five hours and featured a series of engaging sessions designed to offer a comprehensive understanding of the company and its role in the industry. The visit began with an introductory session that provided students with an overview of IFS Sri Lanka’s operations, the types of projects the company is involved in, and the various roles that its employees play. This session allowed students to ask questions, clarifying their doubts about the company’s offerings, job roles, and other industry-related topics. The interactive nature of this session gave students valuable insights into what it's like to work in such an environment and the career paths available to them in the future. After a lunch break, the visit continued with a panel discussion featuring a group of IFS employees. These professionals shared their personal experiences of how they joined the company, their early career plans, and the strategies they used to succeed in the competitive IT industry. They also discussed best practices for thriving in the industry, providing students with practical advice that can guide them as they prepare to enter the workforce. The event concluded with an office tour, where students had the opportunity to observe the company’s work environment and gain a better understanding of the day-to-day operations within IFS Sri Lanka. The visit offered a unique perspective on what it takes to excel in the IT sector, leaving students with valuable knowledge and a clearer vision of their potential career paths. Overall, this industry visit was a highly successful initiative that exposed IT undergraduates to real-world experiences, equipping them with practical insights and advice to help shape their professional journeys.
