Brainstorm '24 - Grand Finale

The grand finale of Brainstorm ‘24 was conducted with the initiative of promoting innovation in the field of engineering in medicine and biology and providing undergraduates with the opportunity to pitch their innovations to the industry improving industry collaboration. The Brainstorm ‘24 Grand Finale commenced at 8:30 am with competitor registration. Participants were registered and the pitching order was decided by drawing lots. At 9:00 am, the event was officially set into motion by the comperes with the lighting of the oil lamp. The chairperson of the IEEE EMBS student branch chapter of the University of Moratuwa, Mr. Kavindu Weerasinghe delivered the welcome, greeting all attendees and setting the tone for the day. Following this the Faculty advisor and Chairperson of the IEEE EMBS Sri Lanka section Dr. Rukshani Liyanaarachchi delivered a speech. Following this, the Chief Guest Eng. Neil Abeysekera, the CEO of the Institution of Engineers Sri Lanka shared his thoughts. Then, Ms. Lihini Rajapaksha the IEEE Sri Lanka section SAC Chairperson took the stage to share their perspective on the competition. The Grand Finale officially commenced at 9:40 am with the start of the final pitching rounds, where five of the eight participating teams showcased their projects to the judges and audience. The first part of the final rounds' pitches ran until 11:20 am, following which refreshments were provided and Dr. Thayaparan Subramaniam the Head of the Department of Electronic and Telecommunication Engineering at the University of Moratuwa addressed the gathering. Then the event resumed with the second part of the final rounds' pitches, lasting until 1:10 pm. The second group of participants presented their pitches in the order drawn. With the conclusion of the pitches, the lunch break was given. Following the speech, there were promotional videos by DALCA Engineering and ACE Healthcare, which showcased their products and services. The judges then shared their insights and observations about the pitches they've witnessed during the final rounds. This feedback were valuable for the participants' growth and improvement. Next, the participants were provided the opportunity to share their experiences, challenges, and learnings from participating in the competition. Then, the most anticipated moment of the event , the awards ceremony commenced. The winners of the MedX Ideathon were initially awarded, followed by tokens of appreciation to all the judges in the initial, semi final and Grand Finale rounds. Tokens of appreciation were also given to the industry partners and the judges of each round. Then the winners of Brainstorm ‘23, Sri Lanka’s premier healthcare innovation competition were awarded. Next, the vote of thanks was given by Mr. Sajitha Madugalla expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, sponsors, judges, and attendees for making the event successful and memorable. Finally, at 3:45 pm, the Grand Finale was called to an end, marking the conclusion of the competition.
