IEEE DAY'24

October 23, 2024 · 4:30 AM - 8:30 AM @ Research Building, Padukka, RB GF3

Description

The IEEE Student Branch of SLTC in collaboration with the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC proudly celebrated "IEEE Day’24," a milestone event where unity, innovation, and technical prowess in the engineering community are celebrated. This year's celebration marks the 15th Anniversary of this globally recognized event, a birthday commemorating the first gathering of engineers under the IEEE organization that has been the backbone of technological advancement and professional development for engineers worldwide. Highly awaited IEEE Day’24 took place on 23rd October 2024 at the SLTC Padukka premises, providing a distinctive opportunity for undergraduates and industry experts to unite and inspire one another. The day was a symbol of IEEE's commitment to engineering and technology celebrated across the globe with its spirit of togetherness and innovation. This year, it was a full day of activities to empower the creativity of the members of the SLTC community and inspire future engineers toward increasing awareness of the importance of technology. The event was packed with interactive sessions, workshops, and a networking environment tailored to the interests of engineering students. A dedicated session conducted by Mr. Aishan Bamunawita on "CV Writing and LinkedIn Awareness" during this event was a great opportunity for building personal branding and preparing for career success. In today's world, the first impressions begin online, knowing how to present oneself on LinkedIn and other job networks can be a real game-changer in opening career opportunities. This workshop thus prepared students with hands-on tools and ways of constructing effective CVs and building up LinkedIn profiles reflective of their skills, achievements, and ambitions. LinkedIn is more than a platform for job applications; it is a professional networking site that could lead to new opportunities, collaborations, and knowledge if used correctly. During the session, the participants learned how to build a strong profile on LinkedIn, summarize their profiles, and showcase projects, certifications, and achievements. Besides technical skills, IEEE Day’24 focused on interpersonal interaction and networking. Several networking opportunities were provided for the participants to meet new friends, and professionals during the event. The participants could share ideas, discuss possible collaborative activities, and gain friendships that may be helpful in the years to come. It was in this vibrant atmosphere of education with sprinkles of networking that the attendees learned about the various engineering channels and their potential contribution to them. This year's IEEE Day was not just about achievement celebrations but also a reflection on the future of technology. It emphasized the role of IEEE in technological advancement while strengthening bonds within the SLTC IEEE community. The day was a reminder that engineering is not only a profession but a collaborative force that drives progress. IEEE Day 24 is a day for growing through shared learning, engaging events, and celebratory actions that encourage students toward innovation, leadership, and commitment to positive change. The session on “IEEE Volunteering and Its Benefits” conducted by Mr. Chasila Withange was an inspiration to all SLTC IEEE volunteers. He shared his personal experiences and the advantages he gained through volunteering with the IEEE. That engaged discussion highlighted how volunteering within IEEE enables students to develop leadership skills, build a strong professional network, and gain hands-on experience beyond the classroom. Participants learned about different roles they could pursue within IEEE, from event organization and technical workshops to committee leadership and project collaborations, all of which foster skills relevant to future careers in engineering and technology. Furthermore, Mr. Chasila underscored the global reach of IEEE, giving students access to an international community of peers and professionals, as well as exclusive resources, mentorships, and career-building opportunities. By actively participating, students can contribute to advancing technology while boosting their own professional and academic profiles. As we go forward, events of this nature remind us how that unity, in exchange for knowledge, shapes the future of technology. In this light, the celebration of this year's IEEE Day with its rich program not only commemorated the legacies of IEEE but marked the pathway for a lot of future years in technological advancements and professional growth for the SLTC community.
