The IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter at SLTC hosted CYBERCON, a cybersecurity workshop, on October 21, 2024, at SLTC Padukka. This event provided an interactive learning environment for students to gain essential cybersecurity skills and practical insights under the guidance of industry expert Mr. Tharaka Mahabage. The workshop also aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical cybersecurity skills essential in today’s digital landscape. The workshop started with a warm welcome from the project chairperson, who shared the project's mission, vision, and objectives while emphasizing the event's significance and benefits to the participants. Mr. Mahabage then introduced the core themes and provided a brief yet comprehensive overview of the day’s focus. The session offered participants an introduction to fundamental cybersecurity concepts while addressing real-world challenges and practical solutions. His extensive industry experience underscored cybersecurity's critical role in protecting modern digital ecosystems. After the main session, students engaged in a dynamic Q&A segment, allowing them to delve deeper into cybersecurity concepts and gain valuable career insights. To add an interactive twist, a Kahoot quiz reinforced key takeaways and encouraged active participation. The event concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by the project secretary, who expressed heartfelt appreciation to Mr. Tharaka Mahabage for his invaluable insights and guidance, as well as to the organizing committee and all participants for their enthusiastic involvement. The project secretary acknowledged the support of the SLTC administration, without whom the event would not have been possible. The closing remarks highlighted the workshop's success in fostering a collaborative and educational environment, inspiring students to continue their journey in cybersecurity with renewed motivation and purpose. CYBERCON successfully combined theoretical insights with practical expertise, creating a memorable learning experience that empowered students with essential cybersecurity skills and inspired them to explore impactful careers in the field. The event fostered a culture of learning and collaboration within the SLTC community, equipping undergraduates with the knowledge and confidence to face the evolving challenges in cybersecurity.
