Description
Introduction About The IEEEXtreme 18.0 campaign, organized by our IEEE Student Branch of University of Ruhuna, aims to engage and inspire students within our faculty to participate in one of the most prestigious programming competitions globally; IEEEXtreme 18.0. IEEEXtreme is a 24-hour, worldwide coding challenge where IEEE student members compete in teams to solve a set of programming problems. This campaign seeks to create awareness, generate interest, and provide support to potential participants, ensuring that they are well-prepared and motivated to excel in the competition. Vision To establish a culture of innovation and collaboration among students by fostering participation in IEEEXtreme 18.0, encouraging them to push the boundaries of their technical skills and problem-solving abilities. Mission To engage and inspire students across the faculty to participate in IEEEXtreme 18.0 by providing the necessary resources, guidance, and motivation. We aim to enhance students' coding proficiency, teamwork, and global competitiveness through active participation in this prestigious programming competition. Objectives ● Increase Awareness: Ensure that all students in the faculty are aware of IEEEXtreme 18.0, its significance, and the benefits of participating. ● Encourage Participation: Motivate students to register and actively participate in IEEEXtreme 18.0. ● Provide Support: Provide guidelines to equip participants with the skills and knowledge needed to excel in the competition. ● Foster Collaboration: Promote teamwork by encouraging students to form diverse teams that combine different strengths and skills. ● Track Progress: Monitor and support participating teams throughout the preparation phase, ensuring they stay motivated and on track. Conclusion In conclusion, our efforts to promote and support IEEEXtreme 18.0 were met with significant success. A total of 31 teams registered and 28 teams actively participated for IEEEXtreme 18.0 competition from our university. Through effective publicity, and the provision of a supportive coding environment, we managed to create an impactful experience for all participants. Notably, one of our teams excelled in the competition, securing 2nd place in the Sri Lanka rankings and 85 th place in global rankings, a remarkable achievement that reflects the dedication of both the competitors and the organizing committee. This success highlights the effectiveness of our approach, though future initiatives could focus on earlier preparation, additional technical workshops, and expanded resources to enhance support. Overall, this event concluded successfully strengthening the competitive spirit and coding culture within our university, setting a strong foundation for future participation in IEEEXtreme. Axiom 2.0 was a three-part workshop series which aimed at improving the competitive programming skills of the participants. Furthermore, an intra-university competitive programming competition; Haxtreme 3.0 was organized in order to give hands-on experiences to the students on competitive programming. IEEEXtreme Day The IEEE Student Branch of the University of Ruhuna made arrangements to hold the competition physically at the Engineering faculty premises. The competition started at 5.30 a.m. on the 26th of October 2024 and continued until 5.30 a.m. the next day. The competition was held physically at the Electrical Computer Centre in the Electrical and Information Engineering Department from 8.30 a.m. on 26th till 5.30 a.m. the next day. Most of the teams left the premises at 5.30 p.m. on the 26th and joined virtually through a Zoom meeting. The two proctors, Dr. Chathura Seneviratne and Dr. Thilina Weerasinghe supervised the competitors throughout the competition time.
