The IEEE Industrial Electronics Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC proudly hosted IES Day24’ on November 20, 2024, at the SLTC Padukka premises. The program commenced at noon with the arrival of esteemed guests, including renowned speakers Dr. Dmitri Vinnikov, Chairperson of the IEEE Estonia Section, and Dr. Andrii Chub, Secretary of the IEEE Estonia Section and Eng. Kavinga Ekanayake. The traditional lighting of the oil lamp symbolized hope and a bright future for the IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter and its members. Mr. Semina Asala delivered the welcome speech, setting an inspiring tone for the day by emphasizing the pivotal role of IEEE and IES in advancing technology for humanity. The highlight of the day was the technical session, which featured two insightful talks by the guest speakers. Dr. Dmitri Vinnikov delivered a compelling presentation on Power Electronics as the Enabling Technology for Building Decarbonization, discussing the critical role of advanced power electronics in integrating renewable energy sources, enhancing energy efficiency, and reducing carbon footprints in modern buildings. Dr. Andrii Chub’s session on Partial Power Energy Processing: A New Toolbox for Efficient DC Microgrids provided an in-depth exploration of innovative energy processing techniques, showcasing how these approaches can significantly improve the efficiency and reliability of DC microgrids, making them more sustainable and cost-effective for industrial applications. These sessions provided valuable insights into cutting-edge developments in industrial electronics, inspiring them to think creatively and pursue innovation. The quiz competition winner received a free IEEE membership, and she was encouraged to be active in society. As a highlight of the day, the Candy Grab game, won by the organizing committee team, added an element of fun and excitement to the proceedings. The event celebrated the IEEE IES Student Branch Chapter of SLTC’s remarkable achievement in winning the prestigious Best Technical Chapter Project Award in the Student Chapter Category for the Sri Lanka Arduino Challenge at the IEEE Sri Lanka Section Awards 2024. This recognition highlighted the chapter’s dedication to impactful and innovative projects, reflecting their commitment to advancing the field of industrial electronics. A special recognition segment honored the tireless efforts of the Arduino Challenge Organizing Committee team, who were awarded certificates for their outstanding contributions. Following this, tokens of appreciation were presented to the distinguished guests as a gesture of gratitude for their invaluable presence and contributions. The event concluded with closing remarks, following the vote of thanks delivered by Ms. Nethmi Fernando.
