The event commenced with an inspiring keynote speech by Prof. Ruwan Gopura, who discussed the evolution and current state of Biomedical Engineering in Sri Lanka. Following the keynote, a thought-provoking roundtable discussion was moderated by Dr. Achintha Kondarage. This engaging session shed light on critical issues such as the scarcity of biomedical engineers in Sri Lanka, the absence of robust policies in related areas, the current state of research and development, and the factors contributing to the nation's lag in this field. The discussion also explored actionable strategies to address these challenges, emphasizing the pivotal role of IEEE EMBS Sri Lanka in shaping a roadmap for progress.
