InspiHER{CADMastery} - Session 03
December 21, 2024 · 1:30 PM - 3:30 PM @ Online event
Description
The InspiHER{Tech} V3.0 project, organized by the IEEE WIE Student Branch Affinity Group of SLTC, empowers and inspires female undergraduates in STEM and IT. It aims to bridge the gender gap by fostering confidence, creativity, and essential skills, encouraging young women to excel, innovate, and lead in technology and engineering fields. As part of this initiative, the third session of InspiHER{CADMastery} was successfully conducted, marking the third day of this dynamic and impactful workshop series. This particular session was pivotal as it introduced participants to more advanced concepts and practical applications of Computer-Aided Design (CAD), paving the way for a deeper understanding of its use in real-world scenarios. The highlight of session three was the presence of Ms. Shavindya Herath, an accomplished professional in the field, as the guest speaker. Her expertise and practical approach added immense value to the session, making it a memorable and enriching experience for all attendees. Ms. Herath began by sharing her journey and practical insights into using CAD, setting the tone for an engaging and educational session. Ms. Herath kicked off the session by walking the participants through downloading and setting up the process of AutoCAD and the given exercises. This foundational step ensured that all attendees, regardless of their prior exposure to CAD, were equipped with the necessary tools to participate actively in the session. The main focus of the session was to immerse participants in practical activities using CAD, particularly emphasizing Third Angle Projections. These activities were designed to help attendees gain hands-on experience and a thorough understanding of this critical concept in engineering drawing. Ms. Herath explained the theoretical background of third-angle projections, highlighting their importance in accurately representing three-dimensional objects in two dimensions. To reinforce the learning, Ms. Herath demonstrated the creation of third-angle projections in AutoCAD. She meticulously guided participants through each step, drawing a plan using CAD and employing methods commonly used in professional practice. The live demonstration helped participants bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and practical application, providing them with valuable insights into how these techniques are utilized in the industry. The session was designed to be highly interactive, with participants encouraged to replicate the demonstrated activities on their own systems. Ms. Herath facilitated a collaborative learning environment, allowing participants to ask questions, share their screens, and receive personalized feedback. This approach ensured that all attendees were actively engaged and could clarify doubts in real-time. Ms. Herath emphasized the practical applications of the concepts being taught, helping participants understand how CAD principles are applied across various engineering and design fields. To enhance this understanding, she conducted hands-on exercises, guiding attendees through practical tasks that reinforced their learning and showcased real-world relevance. This approach not only deepened their knowledge but also inspired them to envision their potential roles in the industry. The session concluded with a lively and informative Q&A segment. Participants had the opportunity to ask Ms. Herath a wide range of questions, from technical doubts to career advice. Ms. Herath’s detailed and thoughtful responses provided valuable insights, leaving participants feeling motivated and well-informed. This session excelled not only in delivering technical knowledge but also in empowering participants. Ms. Herath's approachable teaching style made complex CAD concepts easy to understand, boosting attendees' confidence. The hands-on activities allowed participants to apply their learning immediately, bridging the gap between theory and practice. As a result, they gained a stronger grasp of CAD, a deeper appreciation for its real-world applications, and renewed enthusiasm for their future in technology and engineering. Finally, we were pleased to capture the perfect photograph, creating a lasting memory.
