Synergy Springs 2025
February 15, 2025 · 3:30 AM - 11:30 AM @ Engineering Building, SLIIT, Colombo, Sri Lanka Institute of Information Technology
Description
Synergy Springs, organized by the IEEE IAS Chapter of SLIIT, is a leadership training program designed specifically for IEEE members to nurture leadership qualities and develop essential soft skills. It was a full-day event held on March 2nd, 2025, aimed at enhancing leadership, teamwork, and communication skills among participants. The event was an engaging program featuring a combination of seminars, interactive sessions, workshops, and hands-on activities. It aims to provide a well-rounded experience focused on learning, skill development and active participation. The day began with registration and a brief opening, followed by a warm welcome speech delivered by Mahdy Abdullah. Participants then engaged in an interactive ice breaker activity facilitated by Chathumina Kalatuwage, which helped set an energetic tone and encouraged networking. This was followed by an insightful IEEE Workshop Session conducted by Mr. Yohan Joseph, focusing on professional development and industry-relevant knowledge. The event continued with the first round of team games that promoted collaboration and creative problem-solving. Participants were challenged to build the tallest possible balloon tower using only duct tape, testing their engineering skills and teamwork under pressure. In a lively game of Pictionary, teams had to guess words or phrases based on quick sketches, encouraging communication and quick thinking. Another exciting activity involved passing a lime through an "endless tunnel," where only five people per team could participate at a time. Each member had to pass the lime along a tunnel made with cardboard, then quickly run ahead to rebuild the chain, ensuring the lime never touched the ground. This game demanded coordination, agility, and strategy. The “Secret Train,” added a humorous twist, where a message whispered by the last person in a line had to be passed to the front using only actions performed in a train-like formation. The outcome often led to unexpected and amusing interpretations, highlighting the importance of clear expression and observation. A Public Speaking Workshop and debate session, led by Mr. Ranuka Perera, provided valuable tips on effective communication and confidence building. The day concluded with a heartfelt Vote of Thanks delivered by Yasas Maddumage, and an Iftar was held to bring everyone together in a moment of reflection and unity. The event successfully combined learning, interaction, and cultural inclusivity, leaving a lasting impact on all who attended.
