On Augist 27th, 2024, IEEE SLInspire, in collaboration with SL2College and powered by IFS Sri Lanka, organized a Career Compass - Career Guidance Session at A/Pahalamaragahawewa Vidyartha Maha Vidyalaya. The session was attended by more than 150 enthusiastic students from Grades 10 and 11, eager to explore their future academic and career opportunities. The primary aim of the event was to provide students with essential information and guidance, aiding them in navigating their career paths and making informed decisions regarding their Advanced Level (A/L) subject selections. The session commenced at 11:00 a.m., generating excitement among both students and teachers. The main focus was to assist students in confidently selecting their Advanced Level (A/L) subjects, addressing the uncertainty many face in this crucial decision. Additionally, students were introduced to a wide array of university degrees beyond the conventional options, expanding their perspectives and sparking interest in diverse academic and professional fields. IEEE Sri Lanka Inspire (SLI) is a project by IEEE Young Professionals Sri Lanka in collaboration with SL2 college, mainly the career compass sessions are focuses on providing advice,knowledge, guidance, and motivation for students in the education sector to make a proper selection when moving toward higher education to raise themselves to achieve a successful career path through research, advocacy, and policy recommendations, ensuring students are prepared for higher education and the workforce of the country. To achieve that vision, SLI aims to build a strong community among the student communities, especially the school students who are currently at their peak in school education, those engaging with O/Ls and A/Ls, students who have been selected to universities and all other educational strategies to ensure equal access to educational opportunities for their journey of higher education, making the educational system of the country more effectively and efficiently. Participants gave overwhelmingly positive feedback, with many appreciating the insightful content and engaging delivery by the SLInspire team. Overall, the Career Compass - Career Guidance Session was a valuable opportunity for students to explore their future career possibilities and make informed decisions about their A/L subject choices.
