Codemania v5.0, the fifth edition of the 12-hour coding hackathon organized by the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of Sri Lanka Technological Campus, took place on the 1st of February 2025. Designed to unite passionate and talented young developers, the event showcased teamwork and technical excellence, hallmarks of Codemania. The opening ceremony began with the registration process, where teams were warmly welcomed and provided with event materials before being directed to their designated areas. Excitement filled the air as participants eagerly anticipated the coding challenge ahead. Following the registration, the moderators officially commenced the opening ceremony, beginning with the traditional lighting of the oil lamp, symbolizing an auspicious start to the event. After the lighting of the oil lamp, the Co-Chairperson delivered the welcome speech, extending heartfelt greetings to the distinguished guests specially: ● Eng. Pradeepa Udakara, Registrar at Sri Lanka Technology Campus - is a respected leader committed to advancing technical education and student development. ● Dr. Lasith Yasakethu,Senior Academic Treasurer of the IEEE Student Branch of SLTC - is a recognized academic excellence and senior lecturer in Technology. ● Mr. Saketha Pulasthi, Membership Development and Program Lead at the IEEE Computer Society Sri Lanka Chapter - is a passionate advocate for professional growth and community engagement in the tech industry. The Co-Chairperson also acknowledged the presence of the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC executive committee members, other student branch executive committee members, and participants, recognizing their enthusiasm and dedication to the event. Next, Mr. Nishada Thathsara, Chairperson of the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch Chapter of SLTC, delivered an inspiring speech. He began by expressing gratitude to the IEEE Computer Society Student Branch executive members for their unwavering commitment to making the event a success. Emphasizing that coding is more than just writing code, he highlighted its role in solving problems and shaping the future. He encouraged participants to embrace challenges in fields such as AI, cybersecurity, and cloud computing, reminding them that innovation stems from persistence, teamwork, and continuous learning. Following this, the other Co-Chairperson provided a detailed overview of the competition. She explained the structure, rules, regulations, and judging criteria, ensuring that all participants clearly understood the framework of the hackathon. Her speech served as a comprehensive guide, equipping competitors with essential knowledge to navigate the event successfully. She also took a moment to acknowledge the invaluable contributions of the advisory panel, the executive committee, volunteers, and faculty advisors, whose dedication played a crucial role in bringing the competition to life. With the formalities completed, the much-anticipated 12-hour hackathon officially began. The atmosphere buzzed with energy as teams dived into the competition, showcasing their technical expertise and problem-solving abilities. The event truly embodied the spirit of innovation, collaboration, and perseverance that defines Codemania.
