RobotNexus 2 Workshop 2
February 23, 2025 · 3:30 AM - 9:30 AM @ Colombo, 10 Trelawney Pl, Colombo 4
Description
Day 2 of RobotNexus 2 began with an inspiring session aimed at helping participants understand the importance of robotics and IoT in today's world. The discussion highlighted how automation, smart systems, and interconnected devices are transforming industries such as healthcare, agriculture, and manufacturing. Participants explored real-world applications of robotics and IoT, from self-driving cars and industrial robots to smart homes and AI-powered assistants. This session served as a motivation booster, encouraging students to think about the endless possibilities in robotics and how they could contribute to future innovations. Following this, the session transitioned into hands-on learning, where participants got their first experience working with Arduino boards and circuit building. They were introduced to the fundamentals of microcontrollers, learning about Arduino architecture, pin configurations, and power management. Understanding how a microcontroller acts as the brain of a robot was a crucial step in preparing them for real-world robotics applications. After covering the theoretical concepts, students moved on to assembling simple circuits, integrating sensors, motors, and microcontrollers. Key areas covered included: Wiring and circuit building – Understanding how different components connect and interact Programming the Arduino – Writing and uploading code to control sensors and motors Testing and debugging circuits – Ensuring everything functions properly before full assembly Through hands-on practice, participants learned how to send signals from the Arduino to various hardware components, allowing their robots to respond to environmental inputs. The session concluded with an engaging troubleshooting exercise, where students worked together to debug and optimize their circuits. By the end of the day, every participant had a functional robotic system, setting the stage for the next workshop, where they would dive into algorithm development and decision-making for autonomous navigation.
