The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Student Branch Chapter at the University of Moratuwa successfully held its First Annual General Meeting (AGM) on 23 Mar 2025 as a milestone event to mark the formal establishment of the chapter. The meeting brought together student members, advisors, and university representatives to celebrate the journey so far and to lay the groundwork for future activities. The event began with a warm welcome address by the Interim Chair, followed by keynote remarks from representatives of the IEEE Student Branch, the Student Branch Counselor, and the GRSS Chapter Advisor. The AGM featured the official introduction of GRSS , the announcement of nomination outcomes , and the revelation of the newly appointed Executive Committee for the term 2024/25 . In addition, the chapter’s constitution and bylaws were discussed to ensure transparent governance and a strong operational framework. The event concluded with a vote of thanks, a logo unveiling, and a virtual group photo session. The newly elected Executive Committee for 2024/25 includes: Chair : Oshadi Aloka Vice Chair : Bhanuka Ranaweera Secretary : Dimal Ranasinghe Assistant Secretary : Imashi Akila Treasurer : Nipuni Buddini Editor : Poojana Perera This event not only formalized the leadership but also set a clear vision for empowering students through GRSS-themed initiatives in geoscience, remote sensing, and earth observation technologies.
