Live Webinar on UAV & Satellite Data for Coastal Monitoring Organized by the IEEE GRSS Student Branch Chapter – University of Moratuwa The IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS) Student Branch Chapter at the University of Moratuwa proudly hosted its first technical event — a live webinar exploring the integration of Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) and satellite remote sensing in coastal monitoring and marine ecosystem conservation . The session was conducted by Mr. Kasun Indika Wanasingha , a researcher at the China-Sri Lanka Joint Center for Education and Research, University of Ruhuna. He shared valuable insights into how cutting-edge Earth observation technologies are being applied to monitor coastal changes, assess environmental impacts, and support sustainable management of coastal resources. The webinar attracted students, academics, and young professionals with interests in remote sensing, oceanography, environmental sciences, and emerging applications of UAVs in geospatial studies. This event marked a key milestone in our chapter’s technical journey, aligning with IEEE GRSS’s mission of promoting knowledge exchange in Earth observation and remote sensing.
