The IEEE GRSS Student Branch Chapter of the University of Moratuwa successfully hosted an Awareness Session on May 4, 2025, to introduce students and young professionals to the global and local initiatives of the IEEE Geoscience and Remote Sensing Society (GRSS). The session aimed to inspire participation, promote understanding of GRSS objectives, and encourage future involvement in chapter activities. The session commenced with a welcome and brief introduction, followed by a video showcasing IEEE GRSS’s global impact. The Chairperson of the student branch chapter then addressed the audience, providing insights into the chapter’s journey and vision. This was followed by a dedicated chapter video highlighting the accomplishments and events of IEEE GRSS SBC UoM. The event featured notable guest speakers, including Mr. Kavinga Ekanayake , Treasurer of the IEEE Sri Lankan Section, who emphasized the importance of student involvement in IEEE, and Dr. Chulantha Jayawardena , chapter advisor, who shared his valuable guidance and support for the student branch. The session concluded with closing remarks, thanking all attendees and encouraging continued engagement with GRSS activities.
